To put it simply, “Frankenweenie” is the story about a boy and his dog. However, tales about boys and their dogs are often more than what they seem on the surface, and this latest effort from mastermind Tim Burton is no exception. This dark and stunningly visual stop-motion animation production in conjunction with Disney Studios is a joyous homage to all the things that are wonderful about childhood.

The story centers around Victor, a young boy with a penchant for scientific study who suddenly loses his beloved dog Sparky. Instead of accepting the loss, Victor decides to bring his dog back to life using the power of science, and that is when things take an uproariously hilarious turn. Shot in a noir-esque black & white tone, this film maintains the spirit of Tim Burton’s original 1984 short film while creating a new updated narrative that speaks to kids and adults of all ages. “Frankenweenie” is fun and engaging without being too dark and over the top for kids, but also maintains a nice storyline that can hold a parent’s interest, and doesn’t have a condescending vibe like many family and children’s oriented films seem to take these days.

The four disc Blu-Ray combo pack includes:

  • Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy
  • All New Original Short: “Captain Sparky vs The Flying Saucers”—An exciting all-new short featuring Victor and Sparky’s home movie.
