Last summer, Syfy announced that they had greenlit a pilot episode for Lev Grossman’s The Magicians. Just a few days ago, it was confirmed that they would be turning the first book in the trilogy into a 12-part series set to begin filming later this summer, with a release date still to be determined.
For those of you not familiar with this series, here’s a little bit of a rundown:
The story follows Quentin, a boy in his 20’s that has super intelligence and a knack for illusions and slight of hand. While walking home one day, he follows a piece of paper to a field where his life is then changed forever. He tests and makes it in Brakebills Academy, a school for magicians. Throughout his learning there, he finds out that Fillory, a place he thought only existed in his favorite childhood book was a real place, and had real threats, both in Fillory and the world. He and his small group of friends, Eliot, Alice and Penny travel to there, and take it upon themselves to protect the land and restore it to the former glory of their childhood stories.
The series is set to star Jason Ralph as Quentin, Sosie Bacon as Alice, Hale Appleman as Eliot, and Arjun Gupta as Penny.
