Music Monday Review: ‘Reign of Terror’ by Sleigh Bells

Sleigh Bells is one gritty band with a completely unique sound that I personally have never heard duplicated by any other band out there. So sit back, relax, and let this self-proclaimed music guru enlighten you on the amazingness that is Sleigh Bells.

This group’s lack of recognition prompted me to write about them, and fueled my need to educate people on the fact that 90% of the good music out there will not be played on the radio. Even my boyfriend had no clue who they were and he’s also an avid music listener as well as a musician. So this week I have decided to review Sleigh Bells album Reign of Terror.

Sleigh_Bells_-_Reign_of_Terror_coverThe album opens with “True Shred Guitar” with the lead singer, Alexis Krauss,  screaming at what sounds like an audience, followed by a rough sounding guitar rift. After that I was wondering what I was listening to, and the album just builds from there. Some of the songs on the album are making me get up and dance even as I write this (well more chair dance, but you know what I mean). “Crush”, “Demons”, and “Never Say Die” are definitely on my work out play list, and I don’t see how they couldn’t get anyone pumped.  These songs definitely are the rock out songs on this album, as well as the one song “Come Back Kid”, which got some radio love when the album first dropped in 2012.

Now in my opinion, any real album has a heart.  The life line of the album (to be more clear), the song that really reaches out and grabs you, the song where you can actually feel what the artist is saying is definitely “Road to Hell”.  I mean, hello! It opens with the sound of a machine gun!  The vocalist’s voice is just so hypnotic, and it carried me through till the end of the track, making that the best song on the album in my opinion.

Then you have “Lost Me” and “D.O.A.”…oh blast… I don’t have a favorite track.  This is essentially a great album with a balanced track list.

So I hope I have let you and my boyfriend know about an amazing band.  They have other great albums too,  this one just happens to be my favorite by them.  So go check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below.
