Music Review: American Beauty / American Psycho By Fall Out Boy

1b118fc8b320107aec550c19b1721dd1_960x960x1Let me just start this article by saying Fall out Boy was one of my favorite bands in 2006. Under the Cork Tree is awesome.  I’ll still rock out to it from time to time (I’m actually listening to it now as I write this review.)  Hello, did you not see Pete Wentz on “One Tree Hill?”  If not, I’m sorry, but you totally missed out.

With that being said, I can’t believe how I made it through their newest offering American Beauty / American Psycho, without literally ripping my ears off. Thank goodness I didn’t, as you would be missing out on an eternity of my amazing reviews. So let’s get into all the awfulness that is American Beauty / American Psycho.

Now usually when an album comes out, the better tracks are released for radio play. Not true in this case at all.  “Uma Thurman” and “Centuries” are undoubtedly the worst tracks on the album, so much over production and track overlays it’s just crazy. The first time I listened to “Uma Thurman”  I was like, WTF? Why are they using the tune from The Munster’s TV show,  and if that’s not the tune it sounds just like it. Unfortunately it doesn’t get any better, with tracks like “Novocaine” “Fourth of July” and “Favorite Record.” I have no idea how this album was even made. Every track goes from bad to worse and back to bad again.

However, there was one track that had a tiny flicker of light to it, and that was “Jet Pack Blues”.  It was a little more simple; not so much over production and the lyrics were a little more Fall Out Boy and a lot less “who-knows-what-they’ve-turned-into.” That made me a little happy, and able to give them the benefit of the doubt that they will come back to their former glory.

All in all this album was just plain bad.  I will hold out hope that the next one will be better and maybe they’ll go back to being…well…Fall Out Boy.  Until that happens I suggest you save the memory space on your computer, and keep the bucks in our wallet.  This album gets no stars from me.

Let me know what you think in the comments below, and if there’s anything you want me to review shoot Geek Girl World a message.  Have a good one, and Ill see you next Monday.
