Music Monday Review: Compton A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre

Straight about a week ago, I got a notification that Dr. Dre had come out with a new album for the biopic Straight out of Compton.  My first thought was, “Oh yea, a remake of  N.W.A songs.”  Boy, I could not have been more wrong.

Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre is amazing, and I have been listening to it non-stop for the last week.  I would have to say the only down side is that every song is a collaboration with another well known rapper in the industry.  On the flip side that’s also one of my favorite parts; getting so much from one album is awesome.   Snoop, Eminem,  Xzibit, Ice Cube, and Kendrick Lamar are just a few of the artists you’ll find on this album.

hqdefaultThe album opens with one of the stand out tracks “Talk About It“,  and it just flows from there.  The beats are on point, proving once again that Dre’s got it. “Satisfiction” is great too, and Snoop Lion’s part is so on point with the current state of music.

“It’s All On Me” and “All In A Day’s Work” are two of the slower songs. You can feel the pain that Dre went through at that point in his life. Losing friends to death and greed is a tough thing. A great artist like Dre was able to pull through, and come back from it starting over with his own label Aftermath. Probably one of the best decisions of his life.

In my opinion, the only real down side is none of the tracks are actually in the movie. To be fair, though, they used original tracks from the time, so not using them made sense to me. Still a down side since the tracks on this album are nothing short of awesome!

This week’s review was a win in my book. Getting to listen to a great album for this week’s review is a nice change after last week.  So when you get a chance, definitely give it a listen.  You won’t be disappointed.   Oh, and go see the movie too.

Let me know what you think in the comments below, and if there’s anything you want me to review just shoot GeekGirl World a message.
