New footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here!
Okay, I know you’re dying to see the footage, so lets nix the words and get straight to the good stuff.
Check out the new footage below!:
Lets just stop replaying that footage for a moment to talk about that lightsaber that John Boyega‘s Finn is wielding. Now we’ve actually seen Finn with his lightsaber before (thanks to the official poster for the film), but this is the first time we’ve seen him with it in fluid cinematic motion.
The scene re-raises one big question that people have already been asking: who the hell is Finn?
He and Rey (Daisy Ridley’s character) are the only characters whose last names seem to be a huge secret, which probably is due to the fact that they both have familiar parentage. And if that’s the case, then that means that Finn is related to a character we already know.
Since he is able to wield a lightsaber, Finn may just have Jedi blood in his veins. Could he possibly be related to Mace Windu (who was portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson in the heavily criticized prequels)?
Having Finn related to Windu would tie in the prequels to the new film, but it may be unlikely considering how many Star Wars fans would prefer to block those three movies and the name Jar Jar Binks from their memory completely.
So… that leaves another important character in the Star Wars world: Lando Calrissian. Just in case you’ve forgotten (and shame on you if you did!) Lando was a smuggler turned Rebel leader. He was pretty much like Han Solo (who happened to be his close friend and ally).
But Lando doesn’t have any Jedi blood in him (as far as we know), so how could Finn wield a lightsaber if he is indeed related to him?
One word: awakening.
The film is called The Force Awakens, so it’s quite possible that normal people who previously had zero connections to Jedi’s (or Sith’s) have begun to develop the Force.
Reason being? Luke and his family are the only Jedi’s left, and their breed is on the verge of extinction, meaning that the Force would also become extinct. But the Force found a way to regain balance by reappearing in random people… kind of like when randos started to develop air bending in Avatar: Legend of Korra.
Another possibility as to who Finn could be? Nobody. Who says last names are mandatory anyways?
All will be revealed for sure when Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18.
