Apple unveiled its new Apple Watch Series 4 line of smartwatches today. This major design overhaul boasts a new, 30% larger screen that is practically edge to edge. Apple Watch users will be able to see more options in their watchOS 5 apps with this larger screen.
The digital crown will now include haptic feedback with the LTE red dot changing into an LTE red ring. The back of the Apple Watch is now ceramic and sapphire crystal.
Apple’s new dual-core 64-bit S4 processor was designed in house by the their silicon team for improved performance. The new Apple Watch will also have an updated accelerometer and gyroscope with built-in fall detection. The new fall detection will be able to trigger a call to emergency services in the event that you are immobile for a minute after a fall.
The biggest announcement, however, is the ability for the Apple Watch Series 4 to take an electrocardiogram or ECG. This is a first for any wearable product on the market and any ECG product offered over the counter to consumers. You can just open the app and press the digital crown to use the feature. The ECG app is FDA approved and backed by the American Heart Association.

This clip from the upcoming Spike Lip Sync Battle was one of the top trending topics and it peeked my interest because it has Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) Not to mention “Toxic” is one of my favorite Britney Spears songs (yes, I am a Britney Spears fan. Calm down.) I had to check it out just to see what Agent Coulson was up to and I all I have to say is I wasn’t disappointed. Let’s see if Marvel will work in a Britney Spears themed throwaway scene in the next Avengers movie, or even have a cameo with the pop idol herself! It’s doable. We have time to work this in people! I can just see Agent Coulson whipping out some Britney Spears trading cards for the singer to sign.
If you really want to know what I think of this clip, check out the video below, and don’t forget to subscribe to the GeekGirl World YouTube channel! This episode of Spike’s Lip Sync Battle is set to air on Thursday April 21 at 10p/9c.
This week, I’m reviewing the new live action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale about a young boy raised in the jungle and his journey to escape the imminent threat to his life. This happens to be one of my favorite animated classics from Disney. Right now, Disney seems to be on a trend where they want to make live action versions of their previously animated movies. This is a trend that I wish Disney would get over, like their trend to turn all their theme park attractions into live action movies. At least that seems to have stopped with Tomorrowland. Now if you want to know if I think this film is worth a shot, you will have to watch my review below. Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel.
The Jungle Book is in theaters now, starring Neel Sethi as Mowgli Bill Murray as Baloo, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Lupita Nyong’o as Raksha, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, Giancarlo Esposito as Akela, and Christopher Walken as King Louie.

TOHO films, the original production company for Godzilla franchise has just released a teaser trailer for it’s latest incarnation of the epic beast set to hit theaters this summer! No word on when it will be coming to the United States and other countries, but it’s theatrical release in Japan is set for July 29, 2016. Hideki Anno of the live action version of Attack on Titan wrote the screenplay and will be co-directing with Shinji Higuchi. Here’s hoping the duo will be able to recreate the same magic they brought to the live action version of Attack on Titan, and yet still remain true to the Godzilla franchise. The 1998 version of Godzilla with Matthew Broderick is still a bitter memory for me. Just going by this teaser for Godzilla Resurgence, I’ve already made up my mind, but you are going to have to watch the video below to find out. The world premiere of the new Doctor Strange teaser trailer has just arrived! Here are our first cinematic glimpses of Benedict Cumberbatch as Steven Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme, and Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One. The film is set to debut in theaters November 4, 2016 and in addition to Cumberbatch and Swinton, stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Mads Mikkelsen. I didn’t grow up reading Doctor Strange in the comics, so I know very little about the actual comic book storyline and characters. However, there is controversy over the casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, who was depicted as an Asian man in the comics. Hollywood has a long history of “whitewashing” ethnic characters and appropriating culture. It’s nothing new, but certainly something that needs to be continually addressed until people of color are regularly cast in leading roles in major big budget films. With all that said, am I excited to see this film? You’ll have to watch the video below to know for sure. Also don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel!
GeekGirl World is now venturing into the new realm of podcasting! For our first podcast, Meg, Courtney and myself got together to discuss comics and comic book movies (I’m sure you can guess which comic book movie prompted this discussion.) We touched on what movies, and sometimes TV shows, are missing from the comic books, whether you need comic book knowledge to enjoy a comic book movie, and who is doing it better, DC or Marvel? We also moved a little bit into the world of anime and manga and the comparisons between those as well.
So take a listen and let us know what you think! Also if you have a topic you would like us to discuss in our next podcast, you can also leave that in the comments too.
Last season there was a shocking finale in which we saw the apparent death of Jon Snow? I only have that in the form of a question because my mind will not let me believe that Jon Snow could be dead. But I wouldn’t put it past George R. R. Martin and by proxy, the HBO showrunners to kill off one of the most popular characters in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe. I can tell you though, as a book reading follower of the series, Jon Snow is not dead until we get Winds of Winter, and that may be another 10 years if Martin keeps to his current pace. No doubt about it the series has caught up to the books, and has previously strayed away from the novels storyline. It might continue to stray even farther in the seasons to come. With that in mind, it’s time for this GRRM follower to catch up with the series because he new season of Game of Thrones is set to hit our TV screens on April 24, 2016. Check out the new longer trailer for the season and my reaction! Also, don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel!
