Dog Day Sunday: Dog Pokemon!

In honor of the continued success of Pokemon Go, this Dog Day Sunday we have decided to feature all of the dog-type Pokemon! Because digital animals are totally more interesting than real-life animals.

Though the original 151 features only two dog-type Pokemon (Arcanine and Growlith), subsequent generations of the Pokemon game and television series have given birth to a plethora of new adorable (and kind of scary) dog-type Pokemon.

Here’s the full list of dog-type Pokemon:

DIY ‘Pokémon Go’ Cosplay Tutorial!

Is it just us, or is the Pokémon Go female trainer outfit the most comfortable and functional cosplay outfit for Comic-Con ever?

  1. Comfortable sneakers (which TOTALLY look like Sketchers)? Check!
  2. Leggings? Check!
  3. Backpack for swag and snacks? Check!

Count. Us. In.

The concept of this outfit is simple enough, but for those of us inexperienced in the art of costume creation, recreating this super chic and comfy look can be a daunting task.

Lucky for us, cosplayer Ginny Di has our backs.

Ginny created her very own Pokémon Go trainer cosplay shortly after the game launched using colorful fabrics and a god-given gift with a sewing machine. Since then, the cosplayer has been flooded with commission requests from fellow trainers.

When I created my Pokémon Go trainer’s costume at light speed the weekend after the game was released, I had no idea that it would explode into thousands of new followers and dozens of commission requests. Unfortunately, I’m really not the commissioning type — I barely have enough time to sew for myself as it is! But what I can do for all the Pokétrainer hopefuls out there is walk you through how I put together my costume, so you can take a stab at your own! – Ginnydi.com

Welp, I guess we’re on our own! Here’s what you’ll need to recreate Ginny’s look:

  • White baseball cap
  • Black gloves
  • Black yoga pants
  • Black shoes with white soles
  • Blue fabric (~2 yds)
  • Zippers: Blue (invisible, ~20″), Yellow or white (separating, ~6-10″)
  • Dark blue fabric marker
  • White fabric (~1 yd)
  • Yellow fabric (~1 yd)
  • Yellow ribbed tank top
  • Ribbon: Yellow 1″, black 1/2″, lavender 1/4″
  • Black fabric (~1/4″ yd)
  • Light grey & dark grey fabric (~1/4 yd each)
  • 1 sheet craft foam
  • Yellow and white acrylic paint
  • 1″ sew-on snap
  • Blue, yellow, white, black, grey, and lavender thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Hot glue gun

Those looking to create a cosplay with a different trainer color scheme need only to substitute the fabric colors!

Unfortunately Ginny’s tutorial does not cover how to create your trainer’s backpack, but creating one shouldn’t be too difficult. Just acquire a plain black or white backpack and decorate it with fabric and markers. Buying (or re-purposing) a backpack is kind of cheating, but it sure as hell beats trying to create a backpack with structural integrity.

After the costume has been created, finish the look by accessorizing it with a pokéball and a plush version of your favorite Pokémon!

Bonus points if you can get your hands on a pokédex.

Ready to recreate this look? Check out Ginny’s full tutorial to get started!

‘Pokémon Go’ Abandons Tracking, World Explodes

Pokémon Go has received a new update… and it’s nothing short of disastrous.

One of the game’s most interactive features – the 3-step Pokémon tracking system – had been broken for weeks, making it impossible for trainers to track Pokémon without the aid of a third party site or app. But rather than fixing the flawed tracking system, Niantic has decided to scrap the feature all together.

Niantic provided little-to-no information about the update once it was made available (smooth, real smooth), but they finally broke their silence late last night, explaining that the tracking system was “confusing and did not meet our underlying product goals.”

Hmm… I’m free ballin’ my thoughts here, but maybe, just maybe, that confusion is rooted in the fact that Niantic included no tracking tutorials within the game? Or any tutorials for that matter?

A lack of information from Niantic, coupled with the tracking system’s poor (and mostly non-existent) performance, ultimately sent many trainers into the warm, reliable arms of third party Pokémon Go websites and apps designed to help trainers find Pokémon in their area. These apps were especially helpful for physically disabled trainers, many of whom relied on this information to plan their Pokémon Go route.

But did we really think Niantic would make Pokémon hunting that easy? Ha!

Niantic has since issued cease and desist letters to all third party Pokémon finding sites and apps (including the popular Pokevision), and as of this writing, nearly all are abiding by Niantic’s wishes and have shut down their services for the foreseeable future.

With tracking and the third-party Pokémon finder sites disabled, trainers now have no choice but to wander around their neighborhoods mindlessly in order to find that Dragonite, Gyarados, or, God help us, Pidgey.

Needless to say, folks aren’t happy.

The social media backlash after the removal of the tracking feature has been massive, and some of the more zealous (and cheap) trainers have even gone so far as to demand refunds from Google and Apple for Pokémon Go in-game purchases. And shockingly enough, people are actually receiving them.

Niantic has not yet revealed any plans to reinstate a working version of the tracking feature, but if the backlash surrounding its absence says anything, they’d be fools not to at least try.

Pokémon Go: How to Choose Your Eeveelution

Pokémon Go fans have discovered a way to choose which Pokémon your Eevee evolves into, and it’s outlandish, simple, and awesome.

As it turns out, all you need to do to guarantee your preferred Eeveelution form is nickname your Pokémon a specific name:

  • Jolteon: Nickname your Eevee Sparky
  • Flareon: Nickname your Eevee Pyro
  • Vaporeon: Nickname your Eevee Rainer

Recognize these names? They’re not random.

Sparky, Pyro, and Rainer were the names of three of the four Eevee Brothers from the first season of Pokémon (episode 37, to be exact). These trainers were in possession of their respective Eevee (Sparky trained Jolteon, Pyro trained Flareon, and Rainer trained Vaporeon), and a fourth brother, Mikey, was trainer to a normal, unevolved Eevee.

Many fans have reported that this trick works flawlessly (I personally vouch for it), but there are some steps you might need to take to ensure that Eeveelution goes off without a hitch.

My 412 CP Eevee evolved into a 1136 CP Vaporeon by naming it ‘Rainer’.

Step 1: Name your Eevee

Depending on which evolved form you are hoping and praying for, nickname your Eevee either Sparky, Pyro or Rainer. Capitalization does not seem to matter (at least in my experience), but it doesn’t hurt to make your proper nouns, well, proper.

Step 2: Reboot the app

Before you evolve your Eevee, make sure to reboot the app. This is a crucial step you might need to take to ensure that the nickname stuck, therefore stopping the game’s currently shaky servers from screwing you over during the evolution process.

Note: I was able to successfully evolve my Eevee into Vaporeon without rebooting the app, but I recommend doing this step nonetheless..

Step 3: Evolve!

The time is here! Now that you’ve nicknamed your Eevee and rebooted the app, it’s now time to hit the evolve button and watch the wondrous Eeveelution take place. If things go smoothly, then you should end up with your desired Eevee.

This Eeveelution trick may only work a limited number of times (according to some fans), so for now, only try it out on your most powerful Eevees.

Did this trick work for you? Let us know in the comments!

The Best Online Slots For Geek Girls

Online slots have become increasingly popular over the past few decades, possibly due to the fact they are a combination of two of our favourite things: the internet and video games! With so many slots out there on the World Wide Web there must be a couple that even the most inexperienced slots players will love, but we thought we’d save you some time by exploring some of the most popular, geek girl-friendly slots there are.

“The Dark Knight” (CC BY 2.0) by dennis.pope85

The Dark Knight Online Slot

Based on the immensely popular DC comic and 2012 movie The Dark Knight, this slot is without a doubt one of the best available online. Created by Microgaming, The Dark Knight Online Slot has a total of 243 ways to win and four progressive jackpots, so even newbies will have a good chance of reaping rewards. Fans of the movie trilogy will also appreciate the Cinematic Spins as they feature clips from the franchise, whilst many of the symbols are actually characters and scenes from The Dark Knight.

To win one of the Progressive Jackpots all you have to do is place a bet, choose one of the two main characters and spin the jackpot wheel. Dark Knight is just one of multiple slot games from 32Red UK, so head over there to receive a £10 no deposit bonus to try the slot for yourself!

Dead Or Alive

Set in the Wild West era of early 19th Century USA, NetEnt’s Dead Or Alive is sure to appeal to any ladies who enjoyed Red Dead Redemption, GUN or even Oregon Trail. It’s extremely easy to play with just 5-reels and 9-paylines, plus everyone has a chance of winning the mega jackpot worth 49,000 times your original wager.

In addition to the jackpot, there are also bonus features such as free spins featuring multipliers which are triggered when you land three pistol symbols in a row. Sticky Wilds – symbols that stick in the reels whilst the rest spin – will then be activated, and if you manage to get more than one of these during your Free Spins bonus round you have the chance to retrigger the round. Dead or Alive is available all over the web, including on Guts Casino where 100 free spins are currently on offer for new players.

Book Of Ra Deluxe

If you enjoy Egyptian mythology, Tomb Raider or The Mummy franchise, chances are you’ll love the Book of Ra Deluxe online slot. Created by Novamatic, Book of Ra Deluxe may not feature a bonus game but its Free Spins round is more than satisfactory.

The aim of the game is to get three Book of Ra symbols, as you’ll receive a total of 10 free spins that can be retriggered indefinitely. Keep spinning and you could even win up to 5000 times your original bet! If you’ve been watching this year’s E3 then you’ve probably got a good idea about what you’d use your winnings for, are we right? Like Dead Or Alive, Book of Ra Deluxe can be found on almost every online casino, including the up-and-coming Energy Casino where you’ll receive a 100% welcome bonus.

Cleopatra

Cleopatra is another successful Egyptian-themed slot though this one comes from IGT and features the Pharaoh herself. This 5-reel, 20-payline slot is considered a classic by many, having remained incredibly popular for years.

Whilst playing Cleopatra, you can win a £10,000-coin jackpot simply by wagering as little as 20p per spin and landing 5 Cleopatra symbols. If you keep spinning there’s a chance you could get the Wild Cleopatra symbol which will ensure you achieve a row of winning symbols and will double your winnings. This slot requires a bit of grinding and a keen eye, so make sure you watch out for the Sphinx Symbol to get between 15 and 180 free spins.

Starburst

There are few online slots more popular than NetEnt’s Starburst, and it’s easy to see why. With 5 reels and 10 paylines, Starburst is a visually beautiful, exciting slot that is available on desktop, mobile and tablet.

Starburst is filled with Wild Symbols, which can substitute for every other symbol in the reels, though you’ll win big if the symbol ends up in the second, third or fourth reel. This will cause the reel to fill with Starburst Wilds and you’ll earn three re-spins. Due to its popularity, Starburst is available on almost every online casino.

Jurassic Park

Microgaming’s popular online slot, based on Steven Spielberg’s 1993 hit film Jurassic Park, is one of the most enjoyable games there is. With 5 reels and 243 ways to win, Jurassic Park is well worth the 15p it costs per spin, especially since you could win over 6,000 times your stake.

Anyone who enjoys fast-paced, thrilling action is sure to love the Bonus Rounds including T-Rex Alert Mode, which includes 6 free spins with 36 Wild Symbols that mean big wins especially if you get the Jurassic Park logo. Also watch out for 3 or more dinosaur egg Scatter Symbols, as you’ll activate the Free Spins feature where each round has its own unique arena and soundtrack. The Jurassic Park Online Slot is also available on 32Red.

Finding Marvel’s Ladies in Gaming

As a lot of comic fans are well aware, Marvel’s gaming prowess is surprisingly lacking when compared to the company’s utter domination of the film industry. One might imagine that for each $100 million-plus movie there’d be an accompanying video game for the biggest and best consoles, but that just isn’t how Marvel seems to want to operate. Instead, they seem fine with spreading their influence over other avenues of gaming, online and through mobile devices (with the exception of the LEGO games for consoles, which I’ll leave out of this conversation).

The good thing about this is it’s resulted in Marvel creating a number of titles that focus as much on collecting superheroes (and villains) as on gameplay. This sort of format just adds to online and mobile games and helps them make up ground where they can’t be as objectively mind-blowing as console titles. And with this focus on character collection, an interesting thing has happened: Marvel’s games have become just about the only branch of the company in which female heroes get equal time and attention to male ones.

The primary example is Marvel Heroes 2016, a very popular MMO game online that features an incredible breadth of Marvel characters. As arguably the “biggest” Marvel game out there, this one excels particularly in incorporating characters that have either barely appeared or not appeared at all yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For instance, Emma Frost, Black Cat, Invisible Woman, Kitty Pride, and many others are all in play for gamers to enjoy. There may ultimately still be more male than female characters, but it’s really a nice dose of equality.

BlackWidow_2Other examples of Marvel’s gaming success as well as the specific use of female heroes are evident in the Internet casino business, which actually consists of more games than you might expect. There are a few slot machine games floating around featuring characters like Elektra. But it’s actually some of the Avengers-related games featured at Gala Bingo’s site that stand out the most, thanks to Black Widow’s prominent place alongside the biggest heroes in marvel. The Iron Man 2 game that’s still up so many years after the film’s release gives Scarlett Johansson’s character the prominent place she deserves, having become one of the strongest and most prolific heroes in the MCU.

Last but not least there are numerous Marvel gaming apps available for mobile devices, and they’ve also excelled at making use of female heroes in their own ways. Basically, these games are frequently updated with characters to suit upcoming or newly released Marvel projects, and since the studio has lately done more to prop up female heroes, the games are following suit. As noted by Mashable, Marvel: Contest of Champions and Marvel: Future Fight added Jessica Jones alongside the release of the Netflix series, and both roped in Elektra when she was announced for Daredevil season two as well.

Really, they’re all fun games and all worth trying, particularly if you like a little girl power with your comic entertainment fix!

10 Last Minute Gift Ideas for the Geek in Your Life

If you’ve procrastinated doing your holiday shopping for the geek in your life until now, then I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for you: your options are pretty slim.

You no longer have the luxury of purchasing presents online if you want them to come in before Christmas, so you’re now forced to face the crowds and lines in the world of retail, where nearly everything by now has been picked over to death.

So, to make your last minute holiday shopping a little less stressful, I’ve spitballed 10 ideas for some geeky gifts that may just be perfect for your loved one! And, to make shopping even easier for you, all of these gifts can be found in nationwide retail stores! Just don’t blame me if they’re out of stock – you’re the one who waited until the last minute!

Attack on Titan Zip Up Hoodie

Available at: Hot Topic
Price: $50-56

Help the Attack on Titan fan in your life stay nice and warm this winter with a Scout Regiment hoodie! Hot Topic has quite a few different variations of the hoodie seen to your left, some with winged sleeves, some without. These hoodies may be a little pricey, but they are made of decent material and will stand not only the test of time, but the dreaded washing machine.

The former goth chain also has a variety of other Attack on Titan swag, including wallets, tanks, keychains, and full cosplay outfits.

Screen Shot 2015-12-23 at 10.41.23 PMAdult Coloring Books

Available at: Barnes and Noble, Target, Michaels
Price: $4-$15

Adult coloring books are a hot trend lately, and honestly, who doesn’t love to color?! Couple a coloring book with a tall beer or glass of wine, and you’ve got yourself the perfect night in.

I have found that Barnes and Noble has the geekiest selection of coloring books aimed at the kid-at-heart (such as the Sherlock one I have featured here), but Target and Michaels also have a decent array, albeit not as geeky.

Bonus points: get them some amazing colored pencils to go along with it! Or wine. Wine is always good.

Star Wars R2-D2 8-pc. Measuring Cup Set

Available at: Kohls
Price: $14.99 (originally $29.99)

Why not bring a little fun into the kitchen with this absolutely adorable R2-D2 measuring cup set?

It includes a 1/4-cup measuring cup, 1/3-cup measuring cup, 1/2-cup measuring cup, 1-cup measuring cup, 1/4-teaspoon, 1/2-teaspoon, 1-teaspoon and a 1/3-teaspoon

You can rearrange the pieces when the set is not in use and store R2 on your counter, making this set truly a functional piece of fandom.

Funko Pop! Figures

Available at: Hot Topic, Target, Walmart, Barnes and Noble, Game Stop, Best Buy, etc.
Price: $8.99-$25

Funko Pop! figures are cute, geeky, and they’re kind of everywhere.

Even if the geek on your list isn’t a Pop! collector, these figurines are sure to find a special place in your loved one’s home or office. Almost every major fandom has been recreated into chibi form by Funko, and the figurines range from mini to large, the standard size measuring at a height of 3.75 inches.

Honestly, as far as last minute geeky gifts go, this is the easiest one to pick up.

That Video Game They’ve Been Raving About

Available at: Game Stop, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Sears etc.
Price: $59.99 (average price for new)

I feel like this is the really obvious choice to make around Christmas, but it’s still an effective one if the geek on your list is a gamer. Plus, retailers have a HUGE supply of games this time of year, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to find the latest and greatest ones in stock while you’re out doing your last minute shopping.

If video games aren’t your forte and you need a suggestion about what to get them, the following new releases are your best bet:

  • Star Wars: Battlefront (PS4/Xbox One/PC)
  • Fallout 4 (PS4/Xbox One/PC)
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (PS4/Xbox One/PC)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III (PS4/Ps3/Xbox One/Xbox 360/PC)

Just make sure they don’t already have the game, of course.

Hayao Miyazaki Swag

Available at: Hot Topic
Price: $4 and up

Hot Topic has an excellent selection of clothing, toys, and accessories based on classic Hayao Miyazaki films (such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service). Their clothing is available in both men’s and women’s options, and if you’re shopping for the latter, then I highly suggest checking out some of the absolutely adorable dresses that they have for sale.

Now this is a bit off topic from the theme of this article, but if you really want to impress the Miyazaki fan in your life, then I highly consider purchasing his collected works on Blu-Ray. This collection is exclusive only to Amazon, so unfortunately it wouldn’t arrive until after Christmas, but it would make one hell of a belated present. Just some food for thought.

Star Wars Jewelry from Kay

Available at: Kay Jewelers
Price: $34.99 – $249.99

Every kiss begins with Star Wars? Okay, that may have been lame, but the Star Wars collection at Kay Jewelers definitely isn’t.

Jewelry has historically been the ultimate last minute gift to get for your loved one, but with this new Kay collection, that stereotypical choice will have a delightfully geeky twist. The collection includes earrings, bracelets, bracelet charms, and necklaces.

P.S: I hope my boyfriend is reading this.

A Drone

Available at: Best Buy
Price: $39.99 -$1350.00

A flying machine that your loved one can use to take aerial shots of the roof and spy on the neighbors?

Uh, yes please.

Drones provide hours of fun, and many come standard with video cameras capable of capturing the many aerial adventures you will have. The ones with the best cameras and controls are going to cost you a small fortune, but a mid range drone without a camera can easily be rigged with a GoPro (or similar) camera.

Best Buy has a large selection of Drones for the holiday season, and they start for as little as $39.99! But of course if you do just so happen to have the means to purchase your loved one a drone costing over $1000, then please be my secret santa. Oh, and get them that drone… duh.

Fleece Super Hero Suit

Available at: Target
Price: $17.48- $24.99

Winter is officially here! So if your loved one has a thing for super heroes (or super villains), then you might want to consider getting them a fleece suit to keep them warm throughout the harsh winter months.

Target carries a selection of these suits, with styling options including Batman, Superman, Ninja Turtles, Captain America, Darth Vader. Sizes are available for men, women and children.

And want to know the best part? Almost everyone has a Target near them, and almost every Target carries these superhero fleece suits, making them the absolute perfect last minute gift.

Pretty Much Anything Star Wars

Available: Almost everywhere
Price: Depends

When in doubt, go with Star Wars presents.

Nearly every retailer is carrying some sort of Star Wars swag, be it toys, clothing, bedding, or even soup. So if your geek is a Star Wars fan, then I’m sure you’ll be able to find something that they’ll love.

From my own experience, I have found that Target and Kohls have great deals on officially licensed clothing, and their selections extend far past graphic tees. Plus, many of these clothing items even come with collectible tins!

I’m sure there are countless other last minute geeky gifts that I haven’t thought of, so please comment below with your suggestions! Happy hunting, and happy holidays!

‘Borderlands’ Film Adaptation in the Works

Borderlands is getting the cinematic treatment!

Lionsgate is planning to bring the hit first-person shooter game to the big screen, and they’ve recruited Avi and Ari Arad as producers to help bring the project to life.

Borderlands has a unique story-driven narrative energy and rich multidimensional characters that position it to become a singular motion picture event,” said the duo in Lionsgate’s official press release.

The Arad’s are best known for their work with Iron ManSpider ManThe Amazing Spider Man,X-MenGhost Rider and Blade.

Unfortunately, Lionsgate did not mention when production on the film is scheduled to begin, nor did they provide a tentative release date.

Borderlands takes place on the planet Pandora, which is located at the end of the universe and has since been deserted by the mining corporation that founded it. But the planet still hosts a colorful cast of characters.

The colonists are drawn there in search of a better life as well as vast mineral resources said to be on the planet, free for the taking, akin to a futuristic gold rush. Some time after settling, the colonists discover that there is little the planet offers aside from some decrepit alien ruins. When the companies mining the planet leave, they let loose the criminals they had employed as forced labor and left any other colonists there. Some of the settlers seek to get rich quick by discovering alien technology. Most others are just trying to survive. After seven Earth years, the planet’s slow orbit brings a transition from winter to spring, and many horrifying creatures emerge from hibernation.

A beacon of hope for the remaining colonists emerges in the form of a mysterious alien Vault carved in the side of a mountain. This Vault is said to contain vast stores of alien technology and secrets. The only problem is that the people who discovered the Vault were completely wiped out by some sort of protective force. The only evidence of their discovery is a scattered radio transmission, proclaiming the Vault’s majesty, but not its location. (Wikia.com)

The game was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. It was originally released in 2009 for Xbox, PS3, and PC, and several sequels have been released since.

First Look at Michael Fassbender in ‘Assassin’s Creed’

The live action movie version of the wildly popular video game Assassin’s Creed is getting ready to begin filming very soon in London and Spain. With that, we are getting our first look at the film’s star Michael Fassbender, who will be playing Callum Lynch, an original character created for the film.

Check out the image (which was exclusively shared by Yahoo!) below:

This photo is going to serve as a really great reference shot for all the cosplayers out there. I personally like how you can see the different textures and the intricate details on the blade. And that scruff!

The film will be based on an original story line, but elements elements will be taken from the original game(s). Fassbender’s Callum learns that he is a descendant from a line of assassins, most notable being Aguilar, who lived in Spain in the 15th century. The knowledge and experiences he gains from Aguilar will help in the present day in the battle against the Knights Templar.

Assassin’s Creed will be distributed by FOX and is being directed by Justin Kurzel. The movie will also feature Marion Cotillard, Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed.

You can check out Assassin’s Creed when it hits theaters next year on December 21, 2016.
