This ‘Walking Dead’ Character Will Probably Die in the Finale

[Warning: while this article is 100% speculative, it may or may not contain Walking Dead spoilers]

Walking Dead fans have a lot of reasons to be worried going into tonight’s season 6 finale.

Daryl, Rosita, Glenn and Michonne have been captured by the Saviors, Maggie’s unborn baby is in trouble, Carol is MIA, and the biggest threat to Team Rick is set to make an appearance: Negan.

Chances are extremely high that at least one member of our group won’t survive the finale, but the question is… who? I have a pretty strong idea of who it may be, but let’s cover our bases and explore a few options here:

Possible Victim #1: Carol

The group’s resident Terminator is running out of pages in her Death Note, and it seems that only now is she feeling the moral repercussions of her past executions.

We’ve seen a weaker, more vulnerable side of Carol in the later half of season 6, and her crisis of conscience has prompted her to secretly flee Alexandria, escaping unseen in one of the town’s outer defense vehicles. Carol was accosted by Saviors during her somber exit, forcing her to reluctantly (but quite awesomely) take out an entire truck full of enemies with some hidden sleeve heat.

Carol left her rosary on the ground during her battle with the Saviors, which may end up symbolizing her acceptance of the “evil” within her. If she decides to use that evil for the greater good (think Boondock Saints), then Carol may come in guns blazing and help save the group from the Saviors. If she is killed in the process, then her death will be a symbolic act of moral redemption, essentially ending her story.

But I honestly doubt that will happen.

Morgan is hot on Carol’s trail, and the awkward moral tension between these two characters hasn’t yet subsided. If anyone is able to calm the internal storm that is currently raging within Carol, then it might be Morgan with his “all life is precious” rhetoric.

Or Daryl, but that’s just my OTP talking.

Possible Victim #2: Daryl

Speaking of that handsome devil… things aren’t looking too good for fan-favorite Daryl, who has been captured and shot by the very Savior he once showed mercy to.

Replay after replay of last week’s episode shows us that his wound appears to be only a shoulder hit, but with Dr. Denise now dead and buried, a wound of that magnitude may still prove to be fatal if not immediately treated.

But if Daryl’s fate for this season is indeed death, then the Saviors aren’t exactly helping.

Daryl pissed off a lot of folks when he blew the Saviors biker gang up with an RPG, but the fact that the remaining Saviors didn’t kill him when given the chance (two chances), signifies that the Saviors are more than likely trying to recruit Daryl and the rest of the Alexandria kill-squad into their ranks.

Also, it’s a known fact that if Daryl dies, we riot, so there’s that.

If my theory regarding the Saviors is to be believed, then Michonne, Glenn, and Rosita should also come out of the encounter relatively unscathed.

Possible Victim #3: Glenn

…Welllllll, maybe not Glenn.

Even if the Saviors are indeed trying to recruit team Rick into their ranks, that doesn’t mean blood won’t be shed. In fact it all but guarantees it.

The Saviors aren’t going to get Rick’s group on board with their heinous shenanigans by singing Kumbaya and roasting mallows. No, they need to be able to exert power over Rick’s group, and the way they do that is through fear.

Glenn will most likely be killed by the Saviors to send Rick and the rest of Alexandria a simple message: fuck with us and die, work with us and live.

Why Glenn? Well, let me be brutally honest here in a way that I know will be controversial:

The Saviors won’t kill Daryl because, let’s face it, they need his strength and marksmanship. Michonne and Rosita won’t be killed either, as they have the potential to provide the Saviors with something that the post-apocalyptic world desperately needs a little more of: booty.

Glenn will most likely be targeted by the Saviors due to his smaller stature, which they may deem to be less than useful. Or, even worse, they may target Glenn simply because of his ethnicity.

Many fans were fooled into thinking that Glenn was dead in the beginning of the season thanks to Dumpstergate, and killing him in the finale is, sadly enough, the perfect way to bring that drama full circle once again.

…I just hope I’m wrong.

The Walking Dead season finale airs tonight, 9/8 PM Central.

Who do you think will kick the bucket in the finale? Let us know in the comments!

‘The Walking Dead’ May Be Trolling Us All

[Warning: you are entering into spoiler territory! If you haven’t seen the latest TWD episode and don’t want to know what happens, don’t continue reading this article]

For a show that is notorious for relentlessly hitting fans right in the feels season after bloody season, you’d think at this point we’d be numb to losing our favorite characters. But I think it’s safe to say that after the latest episode of The Walking Dead, a lot of us are in need of a little comfort and hope right now.

Well, here’s probably the biggest comforting line you can hear right now: Glenn isn’t dead!

His ‘death’ is simply one big fandom trolling event, and I have five pieces of evidence to back this fact claim up:

1.  Nicholas’ body fell on Glenn

Nicholas falls on top of Glenn when his corpse tumbles to the earth, and while we don’t necessarily see him on top of Glenn when the walkers begin munching down, we do see something else: entrails.

No shit, right? He’s supposed to be walker food, after all. But take a closer look at those entrails:

Those are clearly intestines, which, last time I checked, aren’t located near your neck. So unless the special effects team and the producers missed Basic Human Anatomy 101 (and with TWD’s attention to detail, I find that highly unlikely), the obvious conclusion we can gather from this is that it’s not Glenn being torn apart, but rather Not-So-Saint Nicholas.

Nicholas is quite massive in comparison to Glenn, so it’s not a far stretch to imagine that Glenn would be perfectly secure and safe (albeit uncomfortable AF) under his (sort of) friend’s dead body.

One may argue against this by saying that the walkers would just eat through Nicholas and then get to Glenn, but you have to remember that walkers don’t always eat the whole body. They prefer their kills super fresh, and once they deem their kill to be past the expiration date (hypocrites), they normally move on.

Or, perhaps Glenn was able to sneak under that dumpster (which DEFINITELY has enough clearance for him) just in time to avoid becoming dinner.

OR, there is still a chance that the walkers could be distracted by noise and go fleeing towards it – a noise kind of like Rick mowing down some Wolves with an assault rifle.

In all cases, Glenn would be covered in blood and guts, which is, as we know, the perfect camo in the zombie apocalypse (and it’s a trick Glenn himself used way back in season 1 to get out of Atlanta).

2. Steven Yuen did not appear on The Talking Dead

It is tradition for cast members to appear on The Talking Dead right after their characters hit the bucket, so when Steven Yuen (who plays Glenn, obviously) did not appear, that told a story all by itself.

After all, there would be no point for Yuen to appear on the show to talk about his character and basically eulogize himself when his character is still in fact alive. Well, for now at least.

We do know that next week’s episode of TTD will feature a secret character from the show, and I’m willing to bet some serious money that it will be Yuen with a grand “surprise, bitches! I’m still alive.”

3. …and he wasn’t in their ‘In Memoriam’.

It’s also tradition on The Talking Dead to memorialize the fallen (human or walker) on TWD during their In Memoriam’ segment. Nicholas (along with all his Alexandria companions) got his time to shine during the segment, but just when you thought you’d see Glenn’s beautiful face pop up, we see this instead:

If this proves anything, it’s that Glenn’s ‘death scene’ wasn’t cut and dry. If there’s still a mystery to be had even when you see him covered in blood, guts, and like 100 walkers, then that has to mean that he’s not dead.

4. Scott M. Gimple confirmed that he’s still alive… kind of

Show runner Scott M. Gimple sent a message to The Talking Dead (which I guess is our main source of evidence) that makes it clear that we haven’t seen the last of Glenn:

“Dear Fans of The Walking Dead,

This is a hard story to tell, and when we were planning to tell it we knew our friends at Talking Dead would be talking to you about it. And knowing you would all be talking and feeling and commiserating I knew we should say something about it, lest our silence say something we didn’t mean to say or not say. So I’ll say this: In some way we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts of Glenn again either in flashback or in the current story to help complete the story.”

It’s a very ambiguous statement that is carefully worded as to not reveal anything, but it’s pretty clear that Glenn is coming back. How? Well, just like #3, it proves that his ‘death’ wasn’t cut and dry.

The very fact that Gimple even had to draft this letter to TWD fans means that the writers and producers knew that fans would be speculating over his fate, which makes it very clear that this was a move they made of purpose.

Plus, they’ve done something similar before *cough* Carol *cough* Andrea *cough*.

5. He was seen on set with a new, unseen character

You’ll see Glenn standing next to a new character in the photo below, which was exclusively shared by ET (NOTE: link contains plot spoilers).

Fans of TWD comics should have a general idea as to who that new beanie wearing character is, but for those of you who stick purely to the television show (like myself), we’ll leave his identity a secret!

Bonus: It’s just a shitty way to kill off a main character

Glenn has been with the series literally since the beginning, which is a TOUGH feat in the world of TWD (unless you’re Rick). Killing off his character in such a way is super unsatisfying and feels like a betrayal and complete lack of respect for Yuen and his character. Well, him dying in general sucks, but you know what I mean.

Tyrese got his own spectacular and beautiful sendoff during the episode when he died, so do you really think they’d let Glenn just fall into a pit of walkers and that would be it?

Have some faith. If we know anything about Glenn, it’s that he’s the ultimate survivor.

So rest easy, fans. Glenn is coming back and we’re going to totally get Glaggie (Glenn and Maggie. Lame? Ok) snuggles and kisses.

What are your theories on Glenn’s survival? Or do you just think he became walker food and that was it? Let us know in the comments!

‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 Trailer is Here!

The Walking Dead season 6 trailer is here and it’s absolutely INSANE!

The Ricktatorship looks like its back in full force, but for how long? Based on the conversations occurring within the trailer, it seems certain that the Alexandrians are going to vote to kick Rick off the island very soon.

Morgan’s do-good philosophy is in deep conflict with Rick’s own philosophy of giving-no-shits, so season 6 will probably build up to an inevitable battle between the once amicable pair. Plus there’s going to be a ton of walkers fucking shit up.. but you already knew that, didn’t you?

What do you think is going to happen in season 6? Weigh in below!

‘The Walking Dead’: Season 6 Photos Released!

We still don’t have the official trailer for the sixth season of The Walking Dead yet (we’re going to have to wait until AMC reveals it at Comic-Con on the 10th), but what better to way to pre-game for it (besides an extra bloody mary) than with some exclusive new photos from the season?

These photos come thanks to Entertainment Weekly, who revealed them in a special exclusive.

Judging by the bandages on Rick’s face, which are from wounds he received in his gruesome battle with love-triangle partner Pete, we can assume that Season 6 picks off pretty much right where Season 5 ended.

He isn’t wearing his constable uniform anymore, but he IS locked and loaded with what appears to be a rifle secured on his side. And since Alexandria was previously ever so strict about guns within the confines of the town (assuming this is within the town, which it kind of appears to be), it would now seem that the ricktatorship has been firmly implemented.

Daryl looks like, well, Daryl. No surprise here, but the fan service is much appreciated.

Our favorite couple seems to be in trouble… again. What the hell are Glenn and Maggie pointing their guns at? Walkers? Alexandrians? The Wolves? And is that a flying bullet in the upper left hand of the photo with Glenn?

It seems like they’re in genuine danger (and within the walls of Alexandria, at that), but perhaps Rick just has a new suns out guns out policy. Who knows.

Either way we’re going to have to wait until the 10th to get at least some of these questions answered. But knowing The Walking Dead’s history with trailers, we’ll probably just be getting a LOT more speculation.

Where do you think the season is going? Let us know in the comments below!

AMC has released yet another promo trailer for Fear the Walking Dead!

The trailer shows a teenage boy and a woman discussing an “alleged” virus that has been turning people in five states, with the subsequent killings being brushed off by the woman as being online hysteria. The woman claims that “the authorities would tell us,” if such a thing was happening.

…Right.

Fear the Walking Dead is set in Los Angeles and will follow a family as they try to survive the outbreak.

Unlike its gory predecessor, The Walking Dead, this series is said to be more of a family drama.

Watch the trailer below:

Fear the Walking Dead Promo Released!

AMC just released a new promo video for Fear the Walking Dead that is sure to set you on edge!

The promo video is less than 30 seconds long but it does an amazing job of portraying just how much fear there will be on the new series. Nick (Frank Dillane) is seen escaping out of a window looking as though he just dressed very quickly and is clamoring for what we assume is his life. The promo doesn’t show any undead, but it does show Nick racing down an alley and out into the street, panicked and in complete terror while trying desperately to keep his pants up.

Fear The Walking Dead is a spinoff of The Walking Dead. The series takes place in Los Angeles during the initial stages of the zombie outbreak. It is set to air this August.

Every small glimpse of the new cast that is released stirs more and more excitement and this new promo doesn’t disappoint.

Check out the video below!

Are you excited for the new companion series? Will you be tuning in each week? Do you think this will be better with no source material (i.e. The Walking Dead comics) for people to compare it to? Or, are you concerned it won’t have as good of a plot and writing without the bone structure of great source material?

Tell us what you think in the comments!

Geek Girls Ink’d: Artist Spotlight: Heather Maranda

20150425_124002This week’s Geek Girl Ink’d is a super special edition of our Artist Spotlight.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Heather Maranda from AMC’s Epic Ink while she was in town for Wizard World Comic Con. Not only did I get to snag a great interview, but I also snagged an amazing tattoo from her as well!

Many of you may know Heather best from Epic Ink, where she and several other artists specialize in the nerdy and geeky wonderment of the tattoo world.

Heather quickly jumped aboard the cast after she was approached by Chris 51 – an easy decision considering that many of the cast members were friends that she already had in the tattoo industry. But Heather soon formed some reservations about joining the cast after fully realizing that she would be on T.V. for the world to see.

Heather doesn’t care about what others think about her, but being a bigger girl she had to acknowledge she would be dealing with a lot of trolls out there. As such, it did take some time for her to decide that it would be worth it.

Heather classifies herself as a “nerd” more so than a “geek.” She isnt like the pop-culture nerds on the show, shes nerdy in the classical sense.

Heather always did really well in school and was in programs for the academically gifted. Although she is a nerd, she definitely is still into geeky things and fandoms, just not as hardcore as her fellow tattoo artists.

Anyone who has seen Epic Ink knows that Heather marches to the beat of her own drum not only in attitude, but in her outward appearance. She is often seen with incredibly bright, colorful hair in a crazy style with crazier clothes to match.

Heather compares her style to the flower in E.T.: when her hair fades and starts to grow out she feels just like that flower when it started to wilt and die. Her style is reflected in her dress and attitude (as I learned during my time spent with her). She radiates a certain brightness from within and this often shines through, especially with her language.

Heather is a huge fan of Star Wars and has been her whole life. She also enjoys everything from Studio Ghibli20150425_121852 to Miyazaki. Heather finds the whole 80’s and 90’s era of anime incredibly appealing due to its art and stories, and since she grew up with that style it will always hold a place in her heart.

Heather has always been into video games and makes time whenever she can to hop on her Playstation or Xbox (as she is an equal opportunity gamer in consoles) to play Skyrim or Minecraft. She admits to not being very great at first-person shooters, but does love Borderlands.

Heather is a proud mommy who has created little nerds as well,  and she finds that most people she meets that consider themselves geeky or nerdy are just passionate about something and will show that passion in a beautiful way.

Heather’s tattoo career has spanned 8 years and is still going strong.

She enjoys tattooing geeky things because it is easier for an artist to really put their all into something that they are interested in. There is a certain level of enthusiasm that goes into the tattoo on top of the professionalism that she puts forth with every tattoo that she does.

While Heather has always been interested in tattooing, her life got in the way of actually tattooing when she was younger as she needed to help support her family with a 9-5 job.

After a falling out with her then boss and ex-stepfather, she decided she had waited long enough and began teaching herself how to tattoo, practicing on her friends.

Looking back now, of course, there are indeed some tattoos that she did early on on her friends that she needs to go back and fix or cover up!

Heather has dealt bullying throughout her life and has developed a super thick skin because of it. Growing up she was teased a lot about various things and she quickly learned how to just let it roll off her back in order to not have her feelings hurt.

Heather recognizes that a lot of people may have low self-esteem because of bullying but wants them to know that it’s important to realize that you are worth something and that you  shouldn’t let some joker that has no real impact on your life make you feel any less than awesome. She believes that if more people just laughed and had a good time more often then there wouldn’t be any room for negativity.

Being a nerd makes her happy and that’s why she is so passionate about nerdy things. She consides the so-called jock who knows all the baseball stats as just a big of a nerd as a “poindexter”; they’re both passionate about things –  just different things.

For those who are currently struggling with being a girl whose into geeky things or tattoos or anything that is not the “social norm”, Heather feels it is important to know that wisdom comes with experience.

All of the kids in your school, middle-school, high school, etc. that you feel you need to impress by fitting in really mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Heather has people in her high school yearbook that are highlighted as to whether she liked them or not, and if they were mean to her she can’t even remember why.

It took her a long time to realize those people were not important in her life and hopes that everyone can come to the same realization. She made sure to share this knowledge this with her own girls so that they know how important it is to be a good person and avoid worrying about anyone that is negative. The important people in your life are going to be those that help lift you up and not the ones who work to tear you down.

To book an appointment with Heather you can contact her here.  Be sure to check out her amazing work below!

If you are a tattoo artist who would like to be featured on GGW or if you just have an incredible tattoo that you’d like to show off, please email webmaster@geekgirlworld.com!

NerdyBound: Mad Men

…If you listen, he’ll tell you how he got there. How he forgot where he was going and that he woke up. If you listen, he’ll tell you about the time he thought he was an angel or dreamt of being perfect. And then he’ll smile with wisdom, content that he realized the world isn’t perfect. We’re flawed, because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had. – Don Draper

Mad Men is in its 7th and final season. The series finale is this Sunday night. The show has been called the best drama on television and I would have to agree. Mad Men is a period drama set in the early 1960’s, and is now ending in the 70’s. Even though I didn’t grow up during this era, Mad Men still has a way of making you feel nostalgic for a past you never experienced. The show doesn’t gloss over this time period, and isn’t afraid to explore the issues of sexism and racism that were so prevalent to that time; issues that are still relevant to this day. It avoids getting preachy by expressing these issues through the show’s characters and bringing it to a personal level we can all relate to. The characters on this show are all so beautifully flawed, and through their tragedies and happiness you end up learning more about yourself as you watch. There are so many instances where this show leaves you with such a profound sadness, but it’s a type of pensive sadness that makes you wonder about life, the human experience, and why we make the decisions that we do.

The show (created by the brilliant Matthew Weiner) as a whole, is beautiful in all its imperfection, just like its characters. The design and costume choices for this show are impeccable. Just from watching the opening title sequence, you get a sense of how stylish this show is. The opening title sequence is one of my favorites and I never get tired of watching it. It’s inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, and the falling man pays homage to the movie poster for Vertigo. Alfred Hitchcock’s influence is prevalent throughout the series ,and in a way fitting to the recurring theme that some of the horrors in life are the ones we create for ourselves. Not only does the design stay true to the time period, but everything is so fashionable you just want to step inside the set of an episode and live in it. Maybe you haven’t seen the show or you don’t care for it, but its style influence is everywhere. The year after the show premiered, all of the fashion runways were covered in designs influenced by the show. To this day, home decor is influenced by the show as well, everyone wants and needs to own a “Mad Men” bar cart for their living room. I dare you to watch this show, and not want to own every outfit featured. In honor of the series finale, and in celebration of such a stylish show, this week’s NerdyBound is all about Mad Men.

Dominic Cooper to Star in AMC’s Preacher

In very exciting comics news, Dominic Cooper has officially signed on to AMC’s upcoming television adaptation of the Vertigo hit, Preacher. Seth Rogen confirmed the news on via his Twitter account:

Cooper will star as Jesse Custer, a Texan preacher who loses his religion – only to be imbued with god-like powers by an entity called Genesis. He joins already-confirmed cast members Ruth Negga (Tulip), Joe Gilgun (Cassidy), and Ian Colletti (Arseface).

Preacher was developed by Rogen and frequent writing collaborator, Evan Goldberg, and AMC ordered the pilot back in December.
