Batman: Arkham Knight Launch Trailer

The Batman: Arkham Knight launch trailer is here! Check it out:

The game will be available for sale everywhere tomorrow, but retailers such as GameStop and Best Buy will be opening up their doors at midnight tonight as part of a special release for the game.

If you do decide to wait in line at one of those stores at midnight, though, just know that most of their inventory will be reserved for pre-orders! They should still have some quantities available that are not reserved, but if you haven’t pre-ordered the game you’re going to want to make sure that you’re one of the first people in line.

But honestly, if you’re going to go that route you may as well just pre-order it, as pre-orders as still open (at least they are at the moment I’m writing this).

Pre-ordering also does come with some perks! Best Buy, for instance, will give you a game bonus that will allow you to play as Harley Quinn AND a $10 rewards certificate (if you’re a My Best Buy member) as a thanks for pre-ordering the game.

But no matter how you choose to get your hands on the game, one thing is definitely certain: this game is going to be absolutely amazing!

Are you going to pick up Arkham Knight? Let us know in the comments below!

Fear the Walking Dead Promo Released!

AMC just released a new promo video for Fear the Walking Dead that is sure to set you on edge!

The promo video is less than 30 seconds long but it does an amazing job of portraying just how much fear there will be on the new series. Nick (Frank Dillane) is seen escaping out of a window looking as though he just dressed very quickly and is clamoring for what we assume is his life. The promo doesn’t show any undead, but it does show Nick racing down an alley and out into the street, panicked and in complete terror while trying desperately to keep his pants up.

Fear The Walking Dead is a spinoff of The Walking Dead. The series takes place in Los Angeles during the initial stages of the zombie outbreak. It is set to air this August.

Every small glimpse of the new cast that is released stirs more and more excitement and this new promo doesn’t disappoint.

Check out the video below!

Are you excited for the new companion series? Will you be tuning in each week? Do you think this will be better with no source material (i.e. The Walking Dead comics) for people to compare it to? Or, are you concerned it won’t have as good of a plot and writing without the bone structure of great source material?

Tell us what you think in the comments!

Prattkeeping: The Internet’s Newest Meme

So Chris Pratt tamed a few raptors in Jurassic World… big whoop!

Zookeepers have been taming their equally ferocious animals for centuries, and now they’re hilariously showing off their skills in the Internet’s newest meme, #prattkeeping!

Check out some of our favorite ones below:

Sea lions, like raptors, rely on their group for hunting.

Rhinos: the modern day triceratops.

Fun fact: Scientists believe that the world’s oldest found penguin fossil suggests that the flightless birds may have outlived the dinosaurs!

Something seems a little backwards here…

Lemurs, when untrained, can wreak absolute havoc on society. Just watch Zoboomafoo for proof.

You wouldn’t want to meet these otters in a dark alley, that’s for sure.

…But it’s Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon who may just have the toughest (and cutest) job of all.

Review: Beauty Blender Original Blender

One of the hottest cosmetic products on the market right now is the Beauty Blender, a makeup sponge that promises to give your makeup a flawless finish while using less of your product.

The manufacturer describes the product as follows:

The world’s first edgeless, non-disposable, high-definition cosmetic sponge applicator. The unique shape and exclusive material available only with beautyblender® ensures impeccable, streak-free application with minimum product waste. Use it with primers, foundations, powders, cream blushes, and any other complexion product.

beautyblender® features an open cell structure that fills with small amounts of water when wet. This allows the sponge to be “full” so that the makeup product sits on top of the sponge rather than being absorbed, allowing you to use less product every time. When wet, beautyblender® doubles in size and becomes even softer, returning to its original size when it air dries.

It sounds great on paper, but does the Beauty blender stand the test of time? I’ll let you know the good, the bad, and the downright ugly based on my experience with this product.

Six Months of Beauty Blending

I purchased my Beauty Blender at Sephora at the suggestion of a friend and I was extremely anxious to try to it out!

First I ran it under the sink and let the sponge expand with the water. I immediately noticed that a lot of the pink dye was running off into the sink, but to be fair the manufacturer did warn that this could happen the first time you use it.

I dabbed some of my foundation in little dots around my face and slowly began to blend it in. I bounced the sponge around my face, rather than smearing it, and eventually my foundation was indeed even and flawless.

Six months later I found myself still using it,  and I was extremely impressed at how seamless the foundation looked with each use.

My foundation would normally look caked before, but with the Beauty Blender as my main tool my skin finally looked like smooth, natural, and honestly just incredible.

I really couldn’t believe how different the foundation looked just by using the sponge (which made me extremely happy since I initially paid over $50 for that foundation!).

I know I sound like an infomercial, but it’s absolutely true.

But, please note, the only reason why this product worked for me for so long is because I was dedicated to making it work.

First I would begin by dampening the sponge under the sink and then squeezing most of the water out of it. Then I would blot some of the foundation onto my skin and begin to use the sponge to blend it in using the bounce method that I mentioned before.

I made sure that I was blending outward, that way I didn’t have a sudden discoloration when I got to my hairline

Depending on how much coverage I needed I would sometimes use another pump of foundation (namely days with a breakout), but on most days I could get away with only one pump. Normally I would use two or three pumps, so this was definitely a welcomed change!

When I was finished with my makeup for the day I would then thoroughly clean the sponge and store it away in its original cylinder packaging.

To clean the sponge I did use the Beauty Blender soap, which is, unfortunately, sold separately unless you buy it as part of a bundle. However, the soap did last me months (and I cleaned this thing every day) and it eventually outlived the sponge itself.

The Downward Spiral

After about six months of daily use and cleaning my Beauty Blender finally gave out.

The texture of the sponge changed and became slimy to the touch. I tried to rigorously clean it but that sliminess unfortunately didn’t go away.

I also noticed that the sponge stopped blending my normal foundation properly, as it would  leave dark spots of foundation on my face that I of course only noticed while I was out in public.

It would absorb most of the foundation so I ended up having to use two pumps of foundation rather than one in order to cover my entire face. On top of that, in order to get it blended properly I had to put in a lot more effort and check it over multiple times.

I eventually stopped using the Beauty Blender entirely after I realized that the sponge was most likely responsible for my recent breakouts. Note: I can’t confirm whether or not it caused my face to break out, but I do believe it is related.

The pros:81eVNgrTI1L._SL1500_

  • Easy to use
  • Easy to clean
  • Allows you to use less foundation compared to other methods of application
  • Has a long life span when taken care of  and stored properly

The cons:

  • Expensive compared to similar sponges
  • The sponge cleaner is not included with the basic blender
  • Long fingernails may accidentally tear the sponge
  • Sponge loses its ability to accurately blend after months of consecutive use

The bottom line:

If liquid foundation is your go-to then the Beauty Blender may just be the perfect addition to your cosmetics arsenal. It’s easy to use, effective, and, when used properly, will actually save you foundation.

However, cost may just be the biggest factor playing against the Beauty Blender. The average consumer may find it to be too pricey for their tastes, especially considering the fact that the cleanser is sold separately.

Luckily there are several bundle deals available at Sephora that can help slim down the costs compared to the price you would pay if you were to purchase these items separately.

But ultimately, it is in my opinion that the Beauty Blender’s longevity and usefulness make it 100% worth the price.

‘Uncharted 4’ Game Play Revealed at E3

Sony rounded off their E3 conference with a brand new look at Uncharted 4′s game play!

The game play for Sony’s flagship series definitely starts off a little awkward!

After the cut scene ends, main character Nathan Drake just stands there instead of following Sully, and the game play restarts itself shortly after and heads in a normal direction.

This definitely was a mistake on Sony’s part, but I personally found watching the villagers go about their daily business while Nate stood there awkwardly quite intriguing!

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be available early 2016 exclusively on Playstation 4.

Penny Dreadful Fashion Collection

Hot Topic is premiering their exclusive limited edition fashion collection all inspired by Showtime’s Penny Dreadful. This year, Hot Topic is collaborating with the pop culture entertainment world to bring us one of a kind fashion collections inspired by our favorite shows and movies. I was a huge fan of their first collection featuring Orphan Black, they literally had me screaming with delight with their Avenger’s collection, and their new Penny Dreadful collection is no exception.

In order to truly appreciate this collection, it really helps if you’re familiar with the series. Penny Dreadful is a psychological horror drama set in Victorian London. The series, a horror fiction fan’s dream, is influenced heavily by Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Dracula, and the name itself refers to the penny dreadfuls of the day. Penny dreadfuls were stories that were exploitative in nature about the supernatural, detectives, and criminals; they were printed on cheap pulp paper and sold for a penny in 19th century Britain. The show is currently airing its second season Sunday nights on Showtime. It’s filled with mystery, old magic, and has a beautiful romantic Gothic feel to it. This romantic Gothic influence is exhibited throughout the entire collection. If you have a love for turn of the century Victorian London, and a fascination with the macabre, this collection was made for you. Let’s go through it piece by piece:

Scorpion Print Dress

20150428_PennyDreadful_LB3
The scorpion is the chosen symbol for one of the show’s lead characters Vanessa Ives, she’s a medium fascinated with the supernatural and literally fighting good and evil within her. The scorpion is a known symbol in astrology representing death and regeneration, and is associated with people that are enigmatic, passionate, and obsessed with secrets. So you can see why the scorpion is so heavily featured throughout this collection. I’m a sucker for anything with a Peter Pan collar on it and this dress features such lovely detail on the collar. You would think that with a scorpion print, the scorpion collar would be going overboard, but they made it in such a way that it looks like it’s made out of lace and not the bodies of scorpions. The color is perfect and gives the dress flexibility to be dressed up as an evening look or down as a daytime dress. The collar and the cupped sleeves make for a very innocent and sweet look, but the print brings that Penny Dreadful darkness to it and I’m loving that disparity.

Scorpion Tank Top

20150428_PennyDreadful_LB5
This top is all about that back. There’s something so beautiful about mixing the lace flowers with the scorpions. I’m glad they left the front empty, it would’ve been too much otherwise. I almost want to get this a size too big and wear it as a dress. I don’t like the styling they chose for the model; I get why they did it since it’s Penny Dreadful, but I would style this as a summer look with no other prints, to keep the focus on the back.

Portrait Print Dress

20150428_PennyDreadful_LB7
This is most certainly an homage to Dorian Gray. In the show Dorian Gray is beautiful with an artistic view on life, and he dresses with style. I like that the dress features several symbols from the show, but that they’re not so specific that someone that isn’t a fan couldn’t wear this. My favorite part of this dress besides that it looks super comfortable and stretchy, is the hemline. The slanting in the hem is very flattering and gives the illusion of curves where there aren’t any, and at the same time is slimming. I would wear this dress everywhere.

Map of London 1891 Dress

20150428_PennyDreadful_LB9
This is my favorite dress from the collection! I pre-ordered this dress as soon as I saw it. I know it’s a map of London, but it has a romantic Parisian feel to it. I love the way they styled it with those lace up tights. You could potentially cosplay as a Queen in this dress. I love the antique look of the map and the open back with lace. So much detail went into this, down to the spiders and Frankenstein’s monster stitches.

Scorpion Illusion Neckline Tank Top

20150428_PennyDreadful_LB11
This is the only look that really fell flat for me. I feel like they just needed an extra piece and came up with this. The illusion neckline looks like scorpions hanging off of spiders; it’s not delicate, it’s bold. That leaves little room for when to wear this. If it was delicate, you could wear it to work or as a casual look, but the boldness means you could only really wear this around Halloween time. And if you’re saying it’s not that bad, you’re right. It’s worse: boring.

Victorian Jacket

20150428_PennyDreadful_LB13
The way they styled this jacket is perfect. It’s exactly how I would wear this. This jacket screams “Rock Me Amadeus” with an edge. This jacket also gives you the versatility to wear it as part of a more feminine look. Honestly, I could do without the laces on the side, however, the jacket is awesome. It just doesn’t need the extra detail, especially since the fabric is stretchy and you could just size down if you wanted that cinched in look. Although, I do like the option of corseting it in.

All of these pieces are available in plus sizes up to 3X, which is amazing because these are beautiful designs. How many retailers out there are offering their main fashion line in plus sizes? If plus size is lucky enough to be an option, it’s certainly always the less stylish version of the featured design. Hot Topic doesn’t do that and I love them for it. I can’t wait to see what they do next. All of their limited edition collections sell out fast, so if I were you, I would start ordering now.  You can pre-order the collection right now at Hot Topic before it hits stores on May 26!

Which piece was your favorite? Who would you like to see Hot Topic collaborate with on their next fashion collection? Let us know in the comments.
