‘Game of Thrones’: Why the Tower of Joy is Important

[Warning: while the following article is entirely speculative, it may or may not contain future Game of Thrones spoilers]

Bran’s latest time traveling adventure with the Three-Eyed Raven has led him to the Tower of Joy, meaning that we may soon have the answer to one of Game of Thrones’ biggest mysteries: what happened to Lyanna Stark?

As readers and watchers of Game of Thrones alike will remember, Lyanna was betrothed to her brother Ned’s good friend, Robert Baratheon. During a tourney at Kings Landing, the victorious Prince Rhaegar Targaryen bypassed his own wife, Elia Martell, to wreath Lyanna Stark as the tourney’s Queen of Love and Beauty. Shortly after this event, Rheagar lit the spark that would fuel Robert’s Rebellion by allegedly kidnapping Lyanna and bringing her to the Tower of Joy in Dorne.

The Rebellion ended when Prince Rhaegar was killed by Robert Baratheon during the Battle of the Trident. After the last sword had been swung, Ned Stark then traveled to the red mountains of Dorne to rescue Lyanna, where, as we saw in season 6 episode 3, he and his Northern crew defeated Ser Arthur Dayne and two other members of King Aery’s Kingsguard.

Viewers don’t yet know what Ned will find in the tower, but readers of the A Song of Ice and Fire series should have an inkling of what (or who) it may be.

In A Game of Thrones, Ned claims that he found Lyanna in the tower dying in a “bed of blood”, but the circumstances surrounding her death were never revealed, leading to a slew of fan theories,  the most notable and widely accepted of which is known as R+L=J.

This theory asserts that Lyanna died as a result of childbirth related complications, but before she passed she made Ned promise that he would raise her child as his own and protect the babe from Robert’s imminent wrath. Ned returned home to Winterfell after the war with a baby in tow, which, if this theory is to be believed, would make Jon Snow not Ned Stark’s bastard, but the highborn son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.

A reveal of this magnitude would be a total game changer for Game of Thrones.

Jon Snow is now released from his Night’s Watch vows thanks to a technicality (a brother’s watch ends when he dies), so he is free to lay siege to Winterfell and take his home back from the villainous Ramsey Bolton and declare himself Lord of Winterfell and King of the North. But if he is indeed the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, then by birthright he would have a claim to the Iron Throne in King’s Landing, as well.

Having Targaryen blood would also make Jon a strong Azor Ahai candidate.

For any of these scenarios to work, Jon Snow will need to be naturalized and rid of the surname “Snow” in order for him to rule anywhere. If Bran’s visions reveal that Lyanna and Rheagar were secretly wed, then Jon Snow will need proof of their union, and as it currently stands, there is only one living character who may be able to vouch for his Targaryen blood and any union between his supposed parents: Howland Reed.

Howland Reed’s location is unknown (his “castle” is said to move), but Bran is traveling with his daughter, Meera, who likely will be able to guide Bran (and Jon, if it comes to it) to the elusive and secretive Lord of Greywater Watch to verify the truth… if indeed that is the truth.

All will hopefully be revealed when Bran and the Three-Eyed Raven revisit the Tower of Joy, but for now, we can continue to happily drive ourselves crazy with fan theories.

What secret do you think the tower is hiding? Let us know in the comments!

‘Game of Thrones’: Where are the Characters?

Chances are you might need a little refreshing on the whereabouts of your favorite characters before the Game of Thrones season 6 premiere, and luckily for you, we’ve got you covered!

Sit back, take a deep breath, and check out our long but light recap of what our living characters are up to! Oh, and the characters are listed in alphabetical order, because OCD.

Alliserthorne-s5e7Alliser Thorne

When last we saw the giant dick-bag that is Alliser Thorne, he was carrying out a mutiny against Jon Snow. Thorne and his fellow mutineers stabbed Snow under a sign that read “traitor” and left him there for dead.

Thorne is currently in Castle Black, where he has likely taken over Jon Snow’s role as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

Arya Stark

Arya, in an act of revenge, defied the Many-Faced God by killing someone who was not hers to kill. Jaqen explained to her that “only death can pay for life” and drank a poison and died. Arya, in her own awkward Empire Strikes Back Luke Skywalker moment, ripped off Jaqen’s many faces until she saw her own. Arya was blinded upon seeing her own face.

She was last seen in the House of Black and White (headquarters of the Faceless Men) in Braavos.

Yara_Season_6Asha/Yara Greyjoy

Yara (or Asha, which is her name in the novels) was last seen way back in season 4 during her attempt to rescue her brother Theon from the Boltons. Yara and her rescue team were forced to retreat, and Yara, upon seeing her brother’s pitiful state, proclaimed that her brother is dead.

Her current whereabouts are unknown, but she is likely either at Pyke or stationed at sea.

BenjenStarkheadshotpromoBenjen Stark

Remember Benjen?

Benjen is the First Ranger of the Night’s Watch and is younger brother to Ned Stark. He disappeared during a ranging mission north of the Wall and has not been heard from or seen since.

He was last mentioned during the season 5 finale, where the more mutinous Night’s Watch members lured Jon Snow out with his uncle’s name.

Bran_Stark_Season_SixBran Stark

We last saw Bran at the giant weirwood tree on the hill, where the three-eyed raven told the young prince that he will never walk again, but he will fly. That has to be the most depressing and coolest thing ever.

The majority of the cast believes that Bran died at the hands of Theon Greyjoy, who murdered and burned two innocent children in place of Bran and Rickon, who managed to escape his grasp.

Bran’s current whereabouts are unknown.

Brienne_Season_6Brienne of Tarth

Brienne, looking to repay a debt to Caitlyn Stark, was on a mission to find and rescue Sansa. While awaiting a signal from Sansa (who is inside Winterfell), Brienne was informed by Podrick that Stannis’ army is close by.

Brienne has an ax (or, er, sword) to grind with Stannis, so she abandoned her mission and headed to the battlefield, where she found a weary and defeated Stannis. Brienne got Stannis to finally admit his role in Renly’s death, and we last see her (seemingly) executing Stannis.

Game_of_Thrones_Season_6_22Cersei Lannister

Things are really awkward for Queen Regent.

Ser Lancel Lannister admitted to having a sexual relationship with Cersei, which gave the High Sparrow all the ammunition he needed to place her in custody. Cersei was forced to complete a Walk of Atonement (shame! *rings bell* shame!) in the total nude.

Cersei arrived at the Red Keep with her body covered with trash and her feet bleeding, but it’s all okay, because she now has her very own armor-plated Frankenstein to take care of her.

She is currently awaiting trial for treason, incest, and regicide.

Daariostill-s5e1Daario Naharis

Daario is currently in Meereen, where he is searching for bed-mate Daenerys, who escaped a violent Sons of the Harpy attack by jumping on the back on her dragon, Drogon.

He is joined on this search by Sir Jorah.

Things will likely be a little awkward between these two rivals during season 6.

Daenerys-MothersMercyDaenerys Targaryen

Drogon flew his mother to an isolated green hill, but due to injuries he sustained during the fight against the Sons of the Harpy, Drogon was unable to fly back to Meereen to reunite Daenerys with her allies and her boy toy, Daario.

Daenerys ventured off to find food for herself and Drogon, but she was soon surrounded by Dothraki blood riders. Knowing that she is about to be kidnapped, Daenerys left her search party an important breadcrumb by dropping her ring in the grass. Her current location is unknown.

Davos_Seaworth_(S05E01)Davos Seaworth

Davos was sent to Castle Black by Stannis under the guise that he was to “recruit troops”, but really the Onion Knight was sent away so that Stannis could sacrifice his own daughter, Shireen, without interruption. What. A. Jerk.

He is still located at Castle Black, where he is mourning the deaths of Shireen, Stannis, and now likely Jon Snow.

Eddison_Tollet_(S05E08)Eddison Tollett

Edd escaped the ruthless attack by the White Walkers by longboat with Jon Snow and a handful of Wildlings (I guess White Walkers don’t like water?).

He is presumed to be at Castle Black.

Ellaria-S5Ellaria Sand

Ellaria, still heartbroken and angry over the death of her lover, Oberyn, employed her Sand Snakes to kidnap Myrcella.

The plan is foiled by Prince Doran, and the Sand Snakes and Ellaria were arrested. Doran gave Ellaria an ultimatum: swear allegiance to him, or die. She hesitantly swore her allegiance, and she and her Snakes were freed. Ellaria apologized to Jaime for attempting to kidnap his daughter – or, er, niece – and explained that she let her emotions get the best of her. As Mrycella was leaving with Jaime, Ellaria planted a poison kiss on her lips.

We last see Ellaria wiping the poison from her lips on the docks of Dorne.

Gilly was nearly raped at Castle Black, but was rescued by Sam and Ghost.

Ghost did most of the saving (let’s be real), but Gilly rewarded Sam’s courageous effort by giving him a bang session.

She is currently in Oldtown with Sam and Little Sam.

Gregor_Clegane_4x07Gregor Clegane/The Mountain

The Mountain was mortally poisoned by Oberyn during their trial-by-combat fight (which determined Tyrions fate).

Cersei ordered the mad scientist Qyburn to save her henchman, and he complied, turning The Mountain into Frankenstein’s worse nightmare.

The zombified Mountain was last seen protecting Cersei in the Red Keep.

Grey_Worm_ProfileGrey Worm

Grey Worm is still recovering from injuries he obtained during a battle with the Sons of Harpy.

He’s also getting it on with Missandei…. hell yes!

Grey Worm is currently in Meereen, where, in Daenerys’ absense, he is helping Tyrion rule.

Hodor is currently accompanying Bran, who had previously warged into the gentle giant to fend off a group of wights.

Hodor’s response to this intrusion: Hodor!

Jamie_Season_6Jaime Lannister

When last we saw Jaime, he and Mrycella were on their way back to King’s Landing from Dorne.

In a sweet, yet understandably creepy moment, Mrycella confessed to Jaime that she knows that he is her real father. The two embraced, but the adorable father-daughter moment was ruined when Ellaria’s poison kiss finally kicks in, and Myrcella died in her fathers arms.

Jon_Snow_(S05E05)Jon Snow

If you don’t remember what happened to Jon Snow, then you have zero business reading this article.

Moving on…

Jorah-hd-still-S5E8Jorah Mormont

Jorah kidnapped Tyrion and took him on a journey to Meereen. The pair were attacked by men afflicted with greyscale, and after the fight it was revealed that Jorah is now afflicted.

The pair finally reached Meereen, where Jorah attempted to get back in the good graces of Daenerys. In an attempt to prove his loyalty, Jorah entered the fighting arena, where he ultimately ended up saving Daenerys from a Sons of the Harpy assassin.

He protected Daenerys in battle against the Sons of the Harpy, and then watched in wonder as the woman he loves flew off on the back of Drogon.

Jorah is currently searching for Daenerys with Daario.

Margaery-and-Loras-Tyrell-Season-4-house-tyrell-37073757-1800-995 Loras & Margaery Tyrell

Loras had been cuddling up with Olyvar post Renly. Margaery, who is now Tommen’s wife, caught Loras and his lover in the act, and warned her brother to be more discreet in the Red Keep, especially with Cersei currently scorned.

Margaery’s warning ends up being justified, and Loras was arrested for breaking the “laws of god and men”. He and Margaery were put on trial, where they both denied that a relationship with Renly ever took place.

The siblings played off the situation expertly, but suddenly Olyvar was brought to the stand, and he exposed Loras and Margaery’s lies.

Margaery was arrested for perjury, and last we see her, she is still in her cell.

Melisandre sacrificed Shireen to the Lord of Light in order to secure a victory for the rightful and true king, Stannis, who was trying to take Winterfell from the Boltons.

Everything went according to plan… except for the part where Stannis’ army deserted him and Stannis himself was killed by Brienne.

Clearly realizing that she had made a huge mistake, Melisandre stole a horse, deserted Stannis, and headed to Castle Black.

Missandei was saved by Tyrion during the Sons of the Harpy arena attack, and she later repayed the favor by convincing team Daenerys to support Tyrion in Daeny’s absence.

She is currently in Meereen with her new boo, Grey Worm, and is aiding the city’s political process.

Olenna-Tyrell-S4EP01Olenna Tyrell

Olenna accused Lord Baelish of helping Cersei take down Loras, which Petyr, being the snake he is, obviously denied. Olenna threatened to expose Petyr’s role in Joffrey’s death should House Tyrell fall.

She is currently expertly throwing shade somewhere around King’s Landing.

Fuck this kid. I don’t care where he is.

Osha entered a portal and is now in the realm of Harry Potter, where she is married to Remus Lupin. Imagine?

When last we saw Osha, the wildling was bringing Rickon and Shaggydog to the holdfast of Jon Umber, a loyal ally of the Starks.

Littlefinger_S5Petyr Baelish

Littlefinger dropped Sansa off at Winterfell and instantly returned to King’s Landing, where his brothel is now in ruins.

Olenna, angry that her grandchildren had been arrested, met Petyr in his brothel and accused him of telling Cersei about Olyvar, which he denied. She then threatened to expose his role in Joffrey’s death should House Tyrell fall. Littlefinger eased her mind by outing Lancel and Cercei’s relationship, which led to Cercei’s arrest by the High Sparrow.

Petyr is most likely still in King’s Landing, doing shady things per usual.

Podrick-Payne-Profile-HDPodrick Payne

Podrick informed Brienne (who he has been traveling with) that Stannis’ army was approaching. Brienne left Podrick to take care of business and film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Podrick’s current whereabouts are unknown, but it is assumed that he is still traveling with Brienne around Winterfell.

Ramsay_Season_6Ramsay Bolton

Ramsay Bolton, who is perhaps the story’s biggest dick, handily defeated Stannis’ army, and is currently on his way back to Winterfell castle.

He does not yet know that his new wife has fled the castle with his man servant.

Rickon_Stark_Season_3Rickon Stark

When last we saw the youngest Stark, Rickon was traveling with Osha and Shaggydog to the holdfast of Jon Umber, a loyal ally of the Starks.

Roose_Bolton-S05E06Roose Bolton

Roose Bolton, aka Father-of -the-Year, is currently in Winterfell with his son, Ramsay.

Samwell_Tarly_in_MockingbirdSamwell Tarly

Maester Aemon passed away suddenly in the night, and Sam, who had been helping him, has left Castle Black with Gilly and Little Sam for Oldtown, where he will train to become to the Night’s Watch’s next Maester.

He is currently unaware of his best friend’s fate.

Sandor_(The_Children)Sandor Clegane/The Hound

The Hound was defeated by Brienne of Tarth way back in season 4 and was left for dead by Arya Stark, who pulled a Grand Theft Auto by taking his money.

His fate and whereabouts are currently unknown. If his brother The Mountain can come back, then hey, maybe we will finally get #Cleganebowl!

Sansa_Season_Six_SnowSansa Stark

Sansa has escaped the clutches of her terrible husband, Ramsay Bolton, with the help of Theon Greyjoy (aka Reek). The pair epicly jumped from Winterfell’s castle wall and are now on the run from the Boltons.

Sansa’s destination is unknown, but it is likely that she will be searching for her brothers, Rickon and Bran.

High_SparrowThe High Sparrow

The High Sparrow laid down the law in season 5, sending Cersei, Margaery, and Loras to jail for their sins.

He is currently in King’s Landing actively dealing with these cases.

Reek_in_sansas_weddingTheon Greyjoy/Reek

Theon Greyjoy (also known as Reek) FINALLY manned up and helped Sansa Stark escape Winterfell.

His whereabouts of his person, much like his penis, are unknown.

Tommen_Season_6Tommen Baratheon

Margaery told Tommen that his mother was likely responsible for Loras’ arrest (a spot on assumption), which led Tommen to angrily confront his mother and demand his brother-in-law’s release. His plea fell on deaf ears, and Tommen expressed regret to his wife, who he later would helplessly watch get arrested.

He is currently in King’s Landing awaiting his wife’s trial. He does not yet know that his sister has been murdered (poor Tommen).

TormundGS5Tormund Giantsbane

Tormund survived the wildling massacre and traveled to Castle Black with Jon Snow, Edd, and the other survivors.

As far as we know, he is still located somewhere near Castle Black.

Tyrion_Season_6Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion was kidnapped by Ser Jorah and brought to Meereen, which worked out perfectly since he was heading there anyways.

In Meereen, Tyrion was introduced to Daenerys, eventually becoming an advisor of hers.

Tyrion is currently standing in for Daenerys, who has been kidnapped by Dothraki, as the ruler of Meereen.

The Spider is currently in Meereen with Tyrion, probably being sassy as hell.

Reactions: Game of Thrones Season 6: Trailer #2

Last season there was a shocking finale in which we saw the apparent death of Jon Snow? I only have that in the form of a question because my mind will not let me believe that Jon Snow could be dead. But I wouldn’t put it past George R. R. Martin and by proxy, the HBO showrunners to kill off one of the most popular characters in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe. I can tell you though, as a book reading follower of the series, Jon Snow is not dead until we get Winds of Winter, and that may be another 10 years if Martin keeps to his current pace. No doubt about it the series has caught up to the books, and has previously strayed away from the novels storyline. It might continue to stray even farther in the seasons to come. With that in mind, it’s time for this GRRM follower to catch up with the series because he new season of Game of Thrones is set to hit our TV screens on April 24, 2016. Check out the new longer trailer for the season and my reaction! Also, don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel!

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Teaser Trailer!

…

“They have no idea what’s going to happen,” the teaser trailer for Game of Thrones proclaims, and perhaps a more accurate statement has never been spoken.

For the first time ever Thrones will be entering into totally uncharted territory, as the HBO series caught up with the A Song of Ice and Fire book series last season, meaning that there is currently no source material to base the show on until George R.R. Martin releases his latest book, The Winds of Winter… which is God knows when.

Fans of both the series and the books will, also for the first time ever, be on the same page, with both group of fans not knowing what to expect, but both holding their speculations and theories close to the chest.

Those theories may be changed after viewing the teaser, but they also may be confirmed. I suppose it all depends on how deeply you read into what you’re seeing, and if you’re a diehard Thrones fanatic, that probably is going to be pretty fucking deep.

So, without further adieu, check out the teaser below!

Were there any Easter eggs or clues you found in the teaser? Is Jon Snow Alive? And is Bran growing a Mustache?! Let us know your reactions and speculations in the comments!

Ned Stark Will Be Back in Season 6 of ‘Thrones’

…But probably not in the way you were expecting.

Watchers on the Wall reported today that 13-year-old English actor Sebastian Croft has been cast for the role of a young Ned Stark.

Croft may not be a household name, but for 13-years-old this kid already has one hell of a theater resume. He has appeared in London West End productions of Matilda and Les Miserables. He also starred as Oliver in a UK national tour of Oliver!, and most recently he played the title role in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ at the Leicester Curve.

Based on Croft’s appearance alone, he seems to be a dead ringer for Ned… albeit much much younger, of course. Just look at those eyes!

We last saw Ned Stark way back in season 1, where he was played by Sean Bean. The character famously lost his head only to find it later on a stick, all thanks to the King Douchebag, Joffrey.

Although his appearance was short lived, Ned still remains one of the most beloved characters in the entire A Song of Ice and Fire book and HBO series.

Many fans have long believed that Sean Bean would eventually reappear in the series to finally bring some confirmation to the L+R=J theory. Others yet hope that he will reappear for some sweet, sweet Lady Stoneheart x Zombie Ned goodness…or maybe that’s just me.

But pretty much no one speculated that we’d be seeing a Ned this young. What purpose will he serve, we wonder?

Let us know your theories in the comments below!

‘Game of Thrones’ Casts New Three-Eyed Raven

Game of Thrones has cast a new three-eyed raven, and it’s none other than the absolutely legendary Max von Sydow.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed today that the veteran actor has officially signed on for season 6 of HBO’s hit series, and the actor is already on the set in Northern Ireland either filming or preparing for this role as the Three-Eyed Raven.

We last saw the Three-Eyed Raven all the way back in season 4, where he was played by Struan Rodger.

Just in case you’ve forgotten, the Three-eyed Raven is an important (and mystical) mentor to Bran Stark, who is still learning how to use his Warg powers and visions. Both characters haven’t been seen since season 4, as Bran’s story line was put on the sidelines for season 5 of Thrones.

Sydow is known best for The Exorcist, Minority Report and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. He even will be part of the cast for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where he will join fellow
Game of Thrones
star Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth).

Are you excited to see Sydow join the cast of Thrones? Let us know in the comments below!

New Evidence Suggests Harington Will Return for Season 6 of ‘Thrones’

Unless you’ve been living under Casterly Rock, you know that Jon Snow was killed off in the Game of Thrones season 5 finale.

…Or was he?

Fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire book series and the HBO series have serious doubts about Snow’s death, and they’ve conjured up some pretty solid fan theories to explain how he could have survived his brutal assassination.

But we may now have some actual, non-conjectured proof that our favorite bastard will return for season 6 after all.

Kit Harington has been recently spotted in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where filming for season 6 of Game of Thrones is currently underway. He was first spotted at the airport in Belfast after disembarking his flight from London, a flight that fellow costar Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen H’ghar) also was on (as reported by Watchers on the Wall).

Harington was also sniped by The Daily Mail walking around Belfast a few days after he was spotted at the airport, this time with (former?) co star Ben Crompton (who you’ll know as Dolorous Edd, Snow’s Night’s Watch brother).

He’s covering up in a hoodie, but it’s clear that Harington is still rocking his gorgeous mane, which he was contractually obligated to not cut (Also, can we PLEASE talk about those skinny jeans?).

It could be that Harington is in Belfast simply filming scenes where he plays a dead body preparing for a good ol’ fashioned Night’s Watch burning, but if the fan theories do hold any merit (and we hope they do), Harington could be in Belfast for the long run.

But until George R.R Martin releases The Winds of Winter or Game of Thrones season 6 premieres (which will come first? we don’t know), the theories will remain just that… theories.

Do you think Jon Snow will be revived in season 6? Share your thoughts and theories below!

Jon Snow… err… Kit Harington Joins Brimstone!

It has been a rough two weeks since the shocking Game of Thrones season finale. Time doesn’t heal all wounds, and many of us Jon Snow fans are still left with a gaping hole inside that only Kit Harington can fill.

(Alright, perhaps I could have worded that better, but you get the point: the people want, no, need more Kit Harington!)

And while he may not be returning to Game of Thrones for season 6 (a “fact” that I refuse to admit), we can still appreciate his acting chops as he takes on other creative endeavors.

Case in point: Brimstone.

Harington will be starring alongside Dakota Fanning and Guy Pearce in the upcoming thriller as Samuel, an outlaw who helps Fanning’s character escape the evil clutches of Pearce!

There will be a mini Game of Thrones cast reunion on the set of Brimstone as well, as Harington’s ugh, I hate this word, former co-star Carice van Houten (Melisandre!!) will also be starring in the flick.

Although he’s sure to be in high demand now, Harington actually wasn’t the first choice for this role. He will be replacing Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson, who left the project due to conflicting interests.

Brimstone is scheduled for a 2016 release.

But just in case you can’t wait that long, you can see more of Jon Snow Kit Harington on July 7th in HBO’s tennis mockumentary 7 Days in Hell, where he stars alongside SNL‘s Andy Samberg.

But either way, we still want to see Jon Snow back. It’s gonna happen.

Will you be checking out either of these films? Let us know in the comments below!

Game of Thrones Season Finale Top Five Recap: Ep. 50, “Mother’s Mercy”

OMG it’s the season finale! That being the case, there are more than just five crazy moments in tonight’s episode, because there just has to be. I will try my best to order them from least to most outrageous but there were many that were equally outrageous.

First up is one of the most touching moments thus far this season. It starts with Jaime, Myrcella and Trystane getting ready to sail back to King’s Landing. Bronn has a flirtatious moment with Tyene one last time and Ellaria kisses Myrcella goodbye.g2 It seems her allegiance is holding firm as she has turned a new leaf. On the boat Jaime hesitantly tries to talk to Myrcella about love and how you can’t really choose who you fall in love with. He is bumbling through it adorably when Myrcella tells him she knows. She knows and is incredibly happy that he is her father. Awwwwww. Finally some honest love for Jaime and he can reciprocate and embrace being a father at long last. Then Myrcella’s nose bleeds and she collapses in his arms, apparently poisoned. Almost forgot what show I was watching. Back on the beach, we see that Ellaria’s nose also begins to bleed, meaning she put poison on her lips before she kissed Myrcella, poisoning them both. She takes the antidote from her necklace and drinks it. If what Tyene told Bronn about the poison is true, Myrcella is certainly dead.

g7Next up we have Sansa and her terrible plight in Winterfell. While Ramsay is away taking care of Stannis, Sansa decides it is up to her to get the message out that she needs help since Reek betrayed her last time. She cautiously makes her way to the broken tower and climbs it. As she is doing this we see Brienne is still diligently watching for the signal when Podrick informs her he has just seen Stannis’ army marching toward Winterfell. Brienne takes one last long look at the tower before heading off. A split second later the candle light appears in the tower window. Sansa succeeded, but was a little too late. Sansa quickly heads back to the castle avoiding Ramsay’s men and bumps right into Miranda and Reek. Miranda has her bow trained on Sansa and is all too happy to inform her that Ramsay has plans for Sansa’s lady parts after he is done getting a couple of heirs from them. Miranda decides Sansa doesn’t need all her other parts to give Ramsay g8what he wants and can help by removing some of them now. As she draws her bow back, Reek grabs her and tosses her off the wall into a courtyard below where it looks like her head shatters on the ground. Sansa is shocked Reek had it in him to protect her (and so am I, honestly) but there is no time to be grateful as Ramsay has just returned. Reek turns to the other side of the wall, climbs up and helps Sansa up, too. They take each other’s hand (whaaat!) and, with a last “do or die” look between them, jump outside of castle wall into what we hope is a much thicker and softer snow bank.
g9Speaking of Stannis, he is indeed marching on Winterfell. However, this is only after learning all his sellswords abandoned them despite the change in climate and warmer night which Melisandre credits to the sacrifice made to the Red God. Oh, and his wife hung herself because of that sacrifice. And then Melisandre took off on horseback. Basically everyone deserted him, but Stannis decides it is still a good idea to continue and march on Winterfell. As he is preparing for the siege, Ramsay and his men surprise him and overtake his army.  It is a pretty short battle and there doesn’t seem to be many that make it through. Stannis takes out two of the last of Ramsay’s calvary but is wounded in the process. Brienne shows up after hearing of the march from Podrick and informs Stannis of who she is. She was Kingsguard to the late Renly Baratheon and she knows it was a shadow with Stannis’ face that killed Renly. Stannis admits to the accusation and Brienne passes judgement on him. She says all the correct words you’re supposed to say when sentencing a person to death, gives Stannis the chance to have last words, which he declines, and kills him in one fluid motion. Like many GoT deaths, we don’t actually see him die per say, but we can definitely hope for it.

Next up is the trouble in Meereen. Daenerys flew off with Drogon and now they have to go find her. Good news is that Grey Worm is up and walking but he feels like a failure for not having been well enough tog5 fight for Daenerys. Daario makes perfect sense finally when he suggests he and Jorah go look for Daenerys while Grey Worm, Missandei, and Tyrion stay and run Meereen. The city will trust and listen to Grey Worm and Missandei and Tyrion is the only one with experience running a city this size so Jorah and Daario head off. Oh, and hey, there’s Varys! He has his “little birds” everywhere and will be sure to be an asset to Tyrion here in Meereen. On to Daenerys and Drogon who is terribly injured and just wants to lie there on top of a hillside and get better even though Daenerys tries to convince him to take her back to Meereen. Being the stubborn teenage dragon he is, Drogon turns his back to her after she attempts to ride him again and decides to take a nap. Frustrated, Daenerys walks off to see where she might be and if there might be some food around. As she is walking though, she is happened upon by an enormous Dothraki khalasaar! Daenerys quickly drops her ring – which I’m sure will come into play next season – before they close in on her. Looks like she’s back at square one.

g1We now check in with Arya and her quest for vengeance. Meryn Trant is actively pursuing his pedophilic and violent ways and has three young girls standing before him. He canes the first and second, satisfied with their ear and yelps of pain, but when he canes the third she makes no noise. She just stands, with her long hair covering her downturned head and takes it. He canes her again, in front this time, and again she just stands. Trant hits her once more on the head actually breaking the cane and again she makes no noise. Presented with this new challenge he sends the other two sobbing girls off and focuses on the third. Trant being the horrific person he is punches the small girl in the gut, knocking her to her knees and the wind out of her. She then stands and pushes her hair aside and stares him in the eye. The girl then tears off her face and we see Arya standing there before she lunges at Trant. She gouges his eyes out with a short knife then repeatedly stabs him in the gut. She takes him from behind, making sure he knows that she is Arya Stark and he was the first on her list for killing Sylvio Forel, and then slits his throat. (Hooray!!!) Arya returns to the House of Black and White and tries to sneak the face back into the g11Hall of Faces. Jaqen and the waif catch her and Jaqen explains that Trant’s life was not hers to take. Because she took a life that was not hers to take they must now pay a life. The Waif grabs and holds Arya as Jaqen opens a bottle the poison from the fountain outside and approaches her. Arya starts to freak out but cannot get loose and watches as Jaqen pours the poison into his own mouth and falls down dead. Arya is let go of and she is angry and upset that her friend is dead. The waif explains he was not her friend as she turns into Jaqen. The man on the floor’s face has changed also and Arya pulls off face after face before finally ending with her own face on the person lying there lifeless. Jaqen explains that the faces are as good as poison to someone who is not yet no one and Arya then begins to lose her vision. Her eyes turn white and she is now blinded.

g10Okay, gather your emotions and prepare. We next come to Cersei, still looking fabulously terrible in her cell as she is once again prodded to “confess.” Looks like she has reached her breaking point, or she is just being Cersei and trying to find the next manipulative way out of this predicament, and agrees to talk to the High Sparrow about the “Mother’s Mercy.” Cersei confesses to fornication with her cousin but still adamantly denies that her children belong to anyone other than Robert (keep the lie alive?). The High Sparrow agrees to allow her to return to the Red Keep for confessing, but she will still undergo a trial for the accusations about her and her children and she also must atone before being set free. Cersei is taken and sprayed down before her hair is completely shorn off and she is taken outside in rags to stand before the entire city. The High Sparrow announces her confession and that she must atone for her lying and fornication. Cersei is then stripped of her rags and she is forced to walk from the temple to the castle naked while a nun walks behind her yelling “shame” and ringing a bell. Cersei is literally going on a “walk of shame.” Now, Cersei is probably one of the more hated characters ever as she is manipulative and horrifically mean to animals and kids and pretty much anyone that’s not one of her kids. This walk that Cersei must endure seems neverending and includes people throwing excrement and food at her, spitting on her, calling her every terrible name in the book, flashing their breasts and penises to her as she walks barefoot, naked, and bleeding through the city. It is the only time Cersei appears truly vulnerable and she breaks down and begins sobbing as she nears the castle gates. I will leave the discussion of whether she “deserves” this up to you. Once inside the castle it is only Qyburn that wraps her up and is sympathetic to her plight. He has a new addition to the Kingsguard and this “mountain” of a man-thing comes in and scoops Cersei up in it’s arms. Qyburn, now a Game of Thrones Dr. Frankenstein, explains the “man’s” silence by saying he has vowed not to speak until all of Cersei’s enemies are dead. As Cersei is being carried off we see that calculating and vengeful look return to Cersei’s eyes.

Lastly, we come to Jon Snow. He returned with the wildlings last week and now has sent them on to the fieldsg3 to be farmers and everyone except Sam hates him. Sam is worried for his and Gilly’s safety and talks Jon into sending him off to train to be a maester. The most adorable and funny conversation this whole episode happens here when Jon and Sam talk about sex. Sam and Gilly leave with little Sam and Davos finally arrives. Melisandre is not far behind to arrive back at Castle Black after having ditched Stannis. Melisandre makes it clear Stannis’ army did not fare well and Davos asks about Shireen. Melisandre’s face gives him his answer without going into the detail that Melisandre is to blame for Shireen’s death, and she disappears without a word. Later, Jon is in his quarters when Olly comes in with great news: one of the wildlings reports having met Jon’s uncle Benjen and says he is still alive. Woo-hoo! I knew there was a reason they brought up Benjen on the “previously on” at the beginning of the show. Jon heads outside to where the wildling is and when the crowd around the wildling parts to let him through he is face to face with a wooden cross with the word “TRAITOR” written across it. Jon is surrounded by Ser Alliser and his other brothers in the Night’s Watch and they are angry. Ser Alliser leans into Jon, driving a dagger into his stomach and declares, “For the Watch.” The others follow suit, each one delivering a stab into Jon’s stomach and proclaiming, “For the Watch.” Finally, Olly comes up and he and Jon stare intently at each other as Jon’s eyes well up and Olly finally jams his own dagger into Jon. Jon collapses as blood pools around him and the scene cuts to black so you can see your own horrified sobbing visage staring back.

Yet again our hearts are of no concern!!! Yet again we do not actually see the life leave him and I cling to the hope that this is not the end of Jon Snow. Then I remember what show I am watching… Any other show and I’d say Jon is certainly not dead, that Melisandre will bring him back or he jumped into Ghost before dying (all purely speculation and HOPE) but with this show, those conjectures are less likely than the probability that he is actually dead.

Let us know what you think will come about in Season 6 (as this season overtook the pacing and plot lines from the most recent book in the series) and your thoughts on each character’s various fates here at the end of this season.
