Reactions: MTV Awards ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Exclusive Clip

During the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, viewers got a special treat to about a minute sneak peek at the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie out in theaters May 6. I didn’t watch the movie awards itsself, but I was definitely online when this clip hit the interwebs and couldn’t pass up another look at what is shaping up to be the blockbuster of the summer. It may be time to go on a complete media blackout as the clips and TV spots just seem to be coming for this one, and May is still a ways off, however, I’m hoping we haven’t seen ALL the goodies in these sneak peeks that keep dropping.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Tom Holland, Frank Grillo, Daniel Brühl, and William Hurt.

Want to know exactly what I really think of this latest clip? You’ll have to watch my reaction below to find out! Let me know what you think in the comments and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel!

Review: Beauty Blender Original Blender

One of the hottest cosmetic products on the market right now is the Beauty Blender, a makeup sponge that promises to give your makeup a flawless finish while using less of your product.

The manufacturer describes the product as follows:

The world’s first edgeless, non-disposable, high-definition cosmetic sponge applicator. The unique shape and exclusive material available only with beautyblender® ensures impeccable, streak-free application with minimum product waste. Use it with primers, foundations, powders, cream blushes, and any other complexion product.

beautyblender® features an open cell structure that fills with small amounts of water when wet. This allows the sponge to be “full” so that the makeup product sits on top of the sponge rather than being absorbed, allowing you to use less product every time. When wet, beautyblender® doubles in size and becomes even softer, returning to its original size when it air dries.

It sounds great on paper, but does the Beauty blender stand the test of time? I’ll let you know the good, the bad, and the downright ugly based on my experience with this product.

Six Months of Beauty Blending

I purchased my Beauty Blender at Sephora at the suggestion of a friend and I was extremely anxious to try to it out!

First I ran it under the sink and let the sponge expand with the water. I immediately noticed that a lot of the pink dye was running off into the sink, but to be fair the manufacturer did warn that this could happen the first time you use it.

I dabbed some of my foundation in little dots around my face and slowly began to blend it in. I bounced the sponge around my face, rather than smearing it, and eventually my foundation was indeed even and flawless.

Six months later I found myself still using it,  and I was extremely impressed at how seamless the foundation looked with each use.

My foundation would normally look caked before, but with the Beauty Blender as my main tool my skin finally looked like smooth, natural, and honestly just incredible.

I really couldn’t believe how different the foundation looked just by using the sponge (which made me extremely happy since I initially paid over $50 for that foundation!).

I know I sound like an infomercial, but it’s absolutely true.

But, please note, the only reason why this product worked for me for so long is because I was dedicated to making it work.

First I would begin by dampening the sponge under the sink and then squeezing most of the water out of it. Then I would blot some of the foundation onto my skin and begin to use the sponge to blend it in using the bounce method that I mentioned before.

I made sure that I was blending outward, that way I didn’t have a sudden discoloration when I got to my hairline

Depending on how much coverage I needed I would sometimes use another pump of foundation (namely days with a breakout), but on most days I could get away with only one pump. Normally I would use two or three pumps, so this was definitely a welcomed change!

When I was finished with my makeup for the day I would then thoroughly clean the sponge and store it away in its original cylinder packaging.

To clean the sponge I did use the Beauty Blender soap, which is, unfortunately, sold separately unless you buy it as part of a bundle. However, the soap did last me months (and I cleaned this thing every day) and it eventually outlived the sponge itself.

The Downward Spiral

After about six months of daily use and cleaning my Beauty Blender finally gave out.

The texture of the sponge changed and became slimy to the touch. I tried to rigorously clean it but that sliminess unfortunately didn’t go away.

I also noticed that the sponge stopped blending my normal foundation properly, as it would  leave dark spots of foundation on my face that I of course only noticed while I was out in public.

It would absorb most of the foundation so I ended up having to use two pumps of foundation rather than one in order to cover my entire face. On top of that, in order to get it blended properly I had to put in a lot more effort and check it over multiple times.

I eventually stopped using the Beauty Blender entirely after I realized that the sponge was most likely responsible for my recent breakouts. Note: I can’t confirm whether or not it caused my face to break out, but I do believe it is related.

The pros:81eVNgrTI1L._SL1500_

  • Easy to use
  • Easy to clean
  • Allows you to use less foundation compared to other methods of application
  • Has a long life span when taken care of  and stored properly

The cons:

  • Expensive compared to similar sponges
  • The sponge cleaner is not included with the basic blender
  • Long fingernails may accidentally tear the sponge
  • Sponge loses its ability to accurately blend after months of consecutive use

The bottom line:

If liquid foundation is your go-to then the Beauty Blender may just be the perfect addition to your cosmetics arsenal. It’s easy to use, effective, and, when used properly, will actually save you foundation.

However, cost may just be the biggest factor playing against the Beauty Blender. The average consumer may find it to be too pricey for their tastes, especially considering the fact that the cleanser is sold separately.

Luckily there are several bundle deals available at Sephora that can help slim down the costs compared to the price you would pay if you were to purchase these items separately.

But ultimately, it is in my opinion that the Beauty Blender’s longevity and usefulness make it 100% worth the price.

Have you tried the Beauty Blender? Let us know in the comments below!

Fan Film Friday Covers “Kung Fu Avengers: Civil War”

This week, we watched and reviewed Beat Down Boogie’s Kung Fu Avengers: Civil War – Iron Man VS Captain America for four very fitting reasons:

  1. Avengers: Age of Ultron Hulk-smashed the box office as the second biggest opening weekend in North America ever. The movie set up some serious internal conflict and friction between our previously chummy Avengers.
  2. Marvel fans are already looking forward to the film Captain America: Civil War, which started production this month and is scheduled to come out May 6, 2016.
  3. Leaked concept art of Iron Man and Captain America battling it out circulated the interwebz recently!
  4. Beat Down Boogie is just so much fun! (Obviously the best reason on the list.)

Watch Beat Down Boogie’s Kung Fu Avengers: Civil War – Iron Man VS Captain America here!

Samsung Teases Iron Man Galaxy S6 Edge

You may soon be able to rock an Iron Man edition of the Samsung Galaxy S6!

Samsung recently tweeted an image of what appears to be a red Galaxy S6 Edge box with Iron Man’s face embossed in gold with the words “coming soon” glowing above.

The tweet has since been deleted by Samsung, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that any plans to release the special edition Iron Man S6 are being scrapped from the table.

Samsung’s head of marketing for their mobile division announced earlier in the month that the new phones would be released late May or early June.

This new phone will have been created due to a partnership between Samsung and Marvel.

Samsung has released a few advertising campaigns in cooperation with Marvel, and in one of them you may be able to see what the Iron Man themed phone will look like. View the video below and shortly after the  3:00 marker you will see the Iron Man Galaxy phone, as well as other versions corresponding to the different Avengers.

There is no word yet on what the price of this new phone will be, and we do not know if it will be exclusive to certain wireless carriers.

Samsung’s tweet only specifies that it will be available for the Edge, but there is a possibility that it may be available for the normal S6 as well.

The Edge has nearly identical specifications to the normal S6, but the screen on the Edge is curved, allowing for colorful side notifications when the phone is placed faced down. It is slightly thicker than the S6, but also is slightly lighter in weight.

Both phones run on Android Lollipop and boast a unibody aluminum design with 32 GB of storage available at the base model level. There is no removable battery or external storage slot, which is a huge change from past Galaxy incarnations, where those features were standard.

The Galaxy S6 currently starts at $199.99 USD (with a 2 year standard contract), while the Edge is priced starting at $299.99 USD (again, with a 2 year standard contract).

Would you rock an Iron Man S6 Edge? Let us know in the comments below!

Captain America: Civil War To Have Iron Man and Ant Man

https://i.annihil.us/u/prod/marvel/i/mg/3/c0/554b8a4d89081.jpg

After months of speculation, the question of whether or not Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr., would be appearing alongside Chris Evans in Captain America: Civil War has been put to rest as the cast was announced yesterday. In addition, the film will also include Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Ant Man (Paul Rudd), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) just to name a few (but pretty much everyone from the cinematic universe has been cast). There is also some speculation that Sony might be splitting rights with Marvel to include Spiderman in the movie. Captain American: Civil War will also be the first movie shot on IMAX Digital 2D,  followed later by Avengers: Infinity War 1&2.

The film will be released May 6th, 2016.

NerdyBound: The Avengers

One of my favorite loves in life is anything and everything to do with Joss Whedon. So when I heard he was directing and writing The Avengers movie I had extremely high hopes and I was not disappointed. The Avengers would come to be my favorite movie of 2012 (along with everyone else that saw it, I’m sure). It was an unquenchable obsession with Loki/Tom Hiddleston that jump started my journey down that cyber rabbit hole known as Tumblr. I had always been a Marvel fan, but now I was in the Marvel fandom! I’ve made lifelong friends in this fandom and I basically got to go to my first San Diego Comic Con because of this fandom. I’m so happy that the Marvel Universe is a part of this superhero cinematic golden era we’re currently in because I get see my heroes come to life. We can criticize the mistakes movie adaptations make until we’re blue in the face, but you can’t deny the magic those movies bring to the fan experience. We get to cosplay outside of Cons, midnight screenings become instant fan meet-ups and, you know, if you’ve been to a good midnight screening, you know they’re kind of akin to a rock concert, the energy level is that amazing. Movies bring more fans, and with that comes more merchandise which equals more fan events. So, yes I’ll probably criticize with the best of them, but for now I’m just thanking the geek gods that Joss Whedon still manned the helm for The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

I’m so excited for the premiere of Age of Ultron! I can’t wait to see their interpretations of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Although I wish Loki could be the villain in every Avengers movie, I have to admit those trailers featuring Ultron with James Spader’s sexy voice had me going. So in honor of the premiere next weekend, I’m dedicating this NerdyBound to The Avengers! I just want to give a quick shout out to Hot Topic who is currently killing it in the everyday cosplay game. I’m a huge fan of their Orphan Black line and they’ve recently announced their new Avengers line. All of the looks are retro inspired takes on The Avengers, they’re all available in plus sizes, and I need to own every piece. I’m honestly so impressed and I can’t wait to see what fandom they do next. I didn’t use every piece in their line, but I felt I should mention it since I’m doing looks for the Avengers and if it were me reading this, I’d want a link to the line ASAP. There are so many Avengers to choose from, but I decided to stay true to the movies and only feature the film’s core group, as this is in honor of the premiere of Age of Ultron. I also had to feature Loki of course, because I would never not feature him in anything having to do with The Avengers. I hope you’re inspired to try one of these looks for the premiere!

Captain America & Iron Man return for “Heroes United”

The new concept art for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was one of the buzziest reveals during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The monster film isn’t hitting theaters until May of 2015, leaving many fans shifting in their seats with anticipation. And unless you want to pull a Steve Rogers and freeze yourself in some ice until May, you’re going to have to tough it up and wait.

But fear not, Marvel fans! You can satisfy your Avengers cravings with “Iron Man & Captain America: Heroes United”.

The occasionally volatile team of Captain America and Iron Man have united in this animated adventure to take down the Red Skull and his trigger man, Taskmaster. Together Captain America and Iron Man attempt to stop them from unleashing a Hydra army, essentially doing what these heroes know best: saving the world.

Voice actors Adrian Pasdar and Roger Craig reprise their roles as Iron Man and Captain America, and Clancy Brown enters the Marvel universe as Taskmaster.

“Iron Man & Captain America: Heroes United” is available today through Digital HD, On-Demand and Disney Movies.

Will you be catching the film? Let us know in the comments!

Tea Review: Tony Stark Blend

stark_tea1

Tony Stark

CREATED BY: CARA MCGEE

Brash, Aggressive, and Rich. A blend at once frustrating and charming.

Based on characters owned by Marvel/Disney. This tea blend is created purely for my own enjoyment.

My Review

The scent of this tea comes out swinging. The lapsang souchong almost punches you in the face at first, but sweet strains of caramel and a heady undercurrent of chocolate float up if you continue inhaling the scent (while possibly looking like a crazy person standing round breathing tea tins, but if you are home alone, no problem.) In this particular batch, the barest hint of ginger comes through in the aroma – probably overpowered by the lapsang.

I steeped a heaping teaspoon at 212 degrees for four minutes, until it was a nice, dark amber color. In the cup, the ginger finally comes through, offering a mellowed sharpness even as the smokiness of the lapsang decreases. As before, I tried this tea without any frills added; a nice, bare-bones introduction to the flavors. Honestly, lapsang can be a little too aggressive at times, particularly if one is not in the mood for a strong tea. However, this blend benefits from the richness of the chocolate and caramel; they supply a smoothness to the smoky intensity of the lapsang and open the door to the subtlest after-bite of ginger, a near-tingling vibrancy left in the mouth after a cup. stark_tea2

The cooler the cup becomes, the more the scent of caramel rises. Fortunately, this blend does not suffer from becoming bitter when cold (I have had problems lately with finishing a cup while it is still hot when I am working and/or writing.) In fact, the additional time in the cup seems to give the blend greater opportunity for the flavors to mesh, and they really complement each other while proclaiming their individuality; a pleasant heaviness threading through and tying all the flavors together long after the cup is drained.

I give this tea 4 out of 5 stars. At first, I was hovering around a 3/3.5 score, but knew part of the low initial impression was because I was unsure how to interpret the subtly deeper complexity of this blend. I tried additional cups and knew it deserved a higher score.

You can purchase it here.
