Stormtroopers Present Boy with 3D Printed Prosthetic

(Photo cred: Augusta Chronicle)

Thanks to a 3D printer and some uncharacteristically friendly Stormtroopers, a Georgia boy in need of a new arm now has a totally epic prosthetic that would make even Luke Skywalker green with envy.

Imperial Troopers from the 501st Legion’s Georgia Garrison took full occupation of the Augusta cinema where 7-year-old Liam Porter just finished watching a movie and surprised him with a completely customized prosthetic arm.

Liam’s new arm was modeled after the technology used in the Star Wars films and television series, and includes a clamp as well as a rail system that is used to slide on different functional attachments.

The prosthetic took creator and 3D printing enthusiast John Porter a total of $300 and 3 months to build.

3D printers are able to print out plastic parts from online designs. Peterson got the idea to create prosthetic after coming across e-NABLE, an online community of people who use 3D printers to create prosthetics. He used a free design template available there to create Liam’s arm.

Once the prosthetic was completed Peterson then recruited the Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion’s Georgia Garrison to bring the surprise together.

The group is a volunteer Star Wars cosplay organization that attends charity events and entertains children in hospitals. They even do security for Star Wars related events.

The Empire has declined to comment on this heartwarming act of treachery at  this time.

Review: My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic: A Royal Pony Wedding

my little ponyJust in time for all the bronies out there, five episodes that comprise the royal pony wedding arch from the popular My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic series. This series currently airs regularly on the HUB TV network in the US. The series is based on the hugely successful toy line from Hasbro. The five episodes included in the DVD are as follows:

“A Canterlot Wedding, Part 1”
“A Canterlot Wedding, Part 2”
“Hearts And Hooves Day”
“Sweet & Elite”
“The Best Night Ever”

The bonus features include 2 sing-alongs “Love Is In Bloom” and “Valentines Day Song” as well as a printable coloring sheet.

The story centers around the betrothal of Princess Cadence to Twilight Sparkle’s older brother Shining Armor. While everyone else seems to be thrilled about the impending nuptials, Twilight Sparkle is not at all pleased with the news.

The themes in the story introduce a very seldom talked about situation in families, when siblings grow up, move away, marry and have families of their own, sometimes a disconnection can occur between those siblings who grew up together so closely. As Twilight Sparkle struggles through her fears, it mirrors some misgivings that many siblings have when their older sibling is about to leave the family home to begin their own adult life.

As bronies will know, My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic often takes the unconventional approach to exploring life lessons and showing parallels in the relationships we have between friends and family in real life.
