Written by: Shea Fonta
Art by: Yancey Labat
Published by: DC Comics
Release Date: June 29, 2016
Price: $9.99

Summary:

“Preparing for high school exams is hard enough, but at Super Hero High, even the tests are super-tough! Principal Waller keeps an eagle eye on her students, drilling them in math, science, literature—and other subjects like flying and powers! And no one wants to fail, because Principal Waller hands out detention faster than a speeding bullet. In the first-ever all ages DC Super Hero Girls original graphic novel, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Bumblebee, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Katana, and Poison Ivy are studying hard—well, maybe not Harley Quinn— when they are each abducted by a mysterious villain! Will the students outsmart their captor, save Gotham City, and still pass their finals?”

Review:

I’ve always really liked the art style, the toys, and all around cuteness that comes with this brand. I never picked up any of the copies of this series until Free Comic Book Day, and I found that specific issue to be very cute but very weirdly focused on just Supergirl. I wanted more, hoping that I would get to see the others female heroes, and this graphic novel definitely provided that.

The story line for DC Superhero Girls is very simple, but not insultingly simple. The girls – which include Bumblebee, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Katana, and Batgirl – are all kidnapped by a mysterious someone right before finals! Readers get to see how each girl is kidnapped and how each of the girls help to defeat that mysterious someone, who, spoiler alert, turns out to be Lex Luthor.

There are a few things that I did and that I’m going to just pick on real quick before finishing up this review. One of the things I did like was the nod to other superheros such as my girl, Starfire, and having some items being made by Wayne Enterprises. There was also a few nods to Lois Lane who was a reporter for the school. I thought that was super cute. I thought it was kind of funny that none of them knew who Lex Luthor was, but were ready to fight.

This is the perfect book for all ages.

I know that if this was out when I was a little girl, I would have been begging my mom to buy it for me. I can’t wait for more characters to be revealed (Starfire is already one of them!) and I can’t wait to see more stories in this format.

New ‘Supergirl’ Trailer Revealed

We finally have a new trailer for the upcoming CBS series Supergirl! Check it out below:

Melissa Benoist (Glee) stars as the titular caped hero in this latest addition to the already superhero-littered TV world.

For those unfamiliar with Supergirl’s story, the most basic information you need to know is that Supergirl is Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El/Danvers. She possesses similar powers to her cousin, and even wears a similar outfit (as you can obviously see).

The show is the brain child of writer/producer Ali Adler (Chuck) and Arrow and The Flash co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg.

Supergirl premieres on CBS at 8:30pm EST on October 26th, 2015.

Will you be tuning in to see Supergirl when it premiers? Let us know in the comments!

This week’s Top Ten centers on the DC comics line up of superheroines. Now in order to get on this list, a character had to do more good than evil, and just exhibit overall badassery (yes, “badassery” is a word!). So, let us know if we got it right or not in the comments! Definitely offer up what your suggestions, additions, or subtractions would be to this top ten list, and don’t for get to check back every Tuesday for a new Top Ten!

First Look: SUPERGIRL! It’s Not Just A Plane

“You may know his story, but you don’t know mine.”

It’s here ladies and gents! The first look of Supergirl, premiering this fall on CBS. There is not one dull moment to be had here, folks. Clocking in at a little over six minutes, it highlights some really awesome scenes and plot development.

The trailer shows her going from just an “ordinary” woman, to saving a plane and numerous costume trials and errors, to becoming the full-fledged hero she is!

This is one show coming out this fall that – and I think I can speak for almost anyone, here – is going to be well worth the wait. From the looks of this trailer, I don’t think there’ll be any disappointment.

Check out the first look below and tell us what you think in the comments!

‘Supergirl’ Set to Fly on CBS

In March, Melissa Benoist‘s Supergirl costume was revealed, and the decision as to where the new superhero series would be premiering was up in the air. Well, that has since changed, and Supergirl will be flying on to CBS this coming fall as the first series to be picked up for the season on that network. Prior to this announcement, they were considering sister network, The CW, and joining Arrow and The Flash.

The season will start as Kara finally comes to terms with who and what she is, and rather than holding back her true nature, embraces her powers to use them as they were intended.

The series will also bring back Superman alum Dean Cain from Lois and Clark, in a yet-to-be-disclosed role and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant.

Our First Glimpse of the New Supergirl

Warner Bros. just released the first images from the upcoming pilot of the Supergirl TV series they have in production for CBS. Melissa Benoist (of Glee fame) looks bold and powerful as the Kryptonian super heroine.

Oscar winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Alice in Wonderland), came up with Supergirl’s new look for the series.

Supergirl2

In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today,

– Colleen Atwood, costume designer

If this superhero style looks familiar, it’s because Atwood is also the designer behind current hit series based on DC Comics titles, The Flash and Arrow, which air on The CW, a network that is a joint venture between Warner Bros. and CBS.

No word yet on whether Supergirl has been officially picked up by CBS, but production is already underway with Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) and Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) among the cast.
