Unboxings: Comic Block March 2016 From Nerd Block Unboxing

I just received the new Comic Block that has been retooled by Nerd Block. Comic Block has gone up in price for monthly subscribers, but now is supposed to have more geeky collectibles to put it on the same level of the other Nerd Block themed blocks. Comic Block always came with at least 4 comics, and some other themed collectibles, but now it is promising 4-6 comics, and a comic t-shirt with its comics themed collectibles. Nerd Block stops short of promising a Funko Pop in every box, which is probably one of the most popular collectible items out there, but they now packing their Comic Blocks with an estimated $60 in value (their estimation, of course.) So, is the $5 dollar price increase worth it? You’ll have to watch the video to find out! Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube channel for more unboxings!

Unboxings: LOOTCRATE Exclusive WonderCon 2016 Crate Unboxing

I’ve been attending WonderCon 2016 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and I happened to stop by the Loot Crate booth to get some goodies! This is their exclusive WonderCon 2016 edition of Loot Crate that you can only get at WonderCon. I actually hadn’t really thought about it, but I was wearing the new DareDevil/Punisher beanie that came in their March 2016 “Versus” themed crate. I do like DareDevil, but there is something about the Punisher that made be choose his side! Anyway, one of the girls at the booth recognized it of course and told me a lot of people were choosing the Punisher side too.  Check out what I got in the box below!

If you want to get your own Loot Crate click on this link to subscribe: http://goo.gl/rqM0vb

5 Things Wrong with the ‘Batman v Superman’ Trailer

The new trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is out, and boy does everyone have an opinion on it. Some hate it, some love it, and some would rather wait for Captain America: Civil War and forget that the DC Universe even exists cinematically.

I’m not sure where I, a huge DC fan, even stand on the film, but I do know for sure that I don’t have the same level of excitement towards the film that I did before seeing the latest trailer. Now the film just seems cheesy, and not the good kind of cheese like provolone, gouda, or Vermont cheddar. This is some straight up discount American cheese, and, I’m not sure if the film is going to be the super sandwich we all hoped it would be.

There are some problems that definitely need to be addressed, and while we could analyze this trailer for days to find every little flaw, I’m going to save myself (and you!) some time by pointing out only 5 of these issues.

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, check it out below and formulate your own opinions, lest I bias you with mine before you even see it for yourself:

Okay, have we all seen it? Excellent. So, without further adieu, here are 5 things that are horribly wrong with the trailer for Batman v Superman…according to me, at least:

1. Lex Luthor

Is it just me, or does Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Superman’s most notorious nemesis seem a little…Joker-esqe? His mannerisms are pretty goofy and aren’t that similar to the Lex Luthor DC fans know. It might be premature, but I’m going to say bad casting/writing on this one. I hope I’m proven wrong, though, as I definitely would like to enjoy Eisenberg’s take on the classic DC character.

Also, I know we’re viewing these clips totally out of context, but it’s super weird that he’d be amazed to see Clark Kent with Bruce Wayne. I know this awkward dialogue is probably in there as a tool to introduce characters we all pretty much already know (just like how they’re also going to show the Batman origin story…afuckingain), but it makes no sense. Only one of those fellows is actually famous, after all. Well, unless Clark Kent is now the equivalent of Brian Williams, and in that case I totally want to see his rendition of Rappers Delight.

2. Wonder Woman

My issue with Wonder Woman has nothing to do with her casting (she’s portrayed by the captivating Gal Gadot), costume, or the fact that she’s even in a film titled Batman v Superman. No, my issue is that she literally just shows up out of fucking nowhere to save the day, with both Batman and Superman comically bewildered as to why she’s even there.

It would be an absolutely sloppy writing decision to have her just show up out of the blue like that as Wonder Woman for (presumably) the first time, but again, this clip is shown totally out of context. It’s clear that they’ve all met one another before (probably in their civilian gear only), but I’m worried that they won’t flesh out her character enough. This will be Wonder Woman’s first major cinematic debut, and for her to be introduced properly to audiences, it needs to be done right. Fingers crossed they do her justice.

3. The Villain

Those of you who aren’t familiar with DC lore may be wondering who that weird monster laying waste to the city at the end of the trailer is. That’s Doomsday, a Kryptonian monster capable of kicking Superman’s alien ass.

Doomsday is an excellent choice for a villain, as he provides a great challenge for not only Superman, but every other member of the infant Justice League, which will no doubt lead to an awesome co-op beat down.

The problem? He’s a visual nightmare.

This interpretation of Doomsday looks like a sad mutated cross between a Lord of the Rings orc and a Michael Bay Ninja Turtle, and that’s just not okay. Ever.

4. Aquaman

Ummm… where’s Aquaman? The superhero that everyone loves to make fun of is noticeably absent from the trailer, even though we know that Khal Drogo Jason Momoa will be portraying him.

This trailer gives away so much plot information but it can’t show a pivotal member of the Justice League? What’s with the secrecy? And FYI, If they were going to keep anyone a secret, it should have been Doomsday. Or General Zod.

What a crazy twist that would have been. Way to put all your cards face up on the table, Zack Snyder – maybe take a page from J.J. Abrams book next time.

5. The entire Bruce Wayne/Clark Kent dynamic

I found the entire verbal debate between Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent to be super awkward.

For one thing, it’s weird that they are even chatting as their ‘normal’ selves, and for another thing, their conversation was way too heated and convenient to be believable.

It’s really not necessary for them to interact normally in street clothes (or in their case, dapper suits), but I understand that they’re trying to set a tone here and set the story up so it’s more dramatic. But honestly, sometimes strangers just need to be strangers.

Then again, are these guys already aware of one another’s alter egos? Because it definitely seems that way from the trailer. I mean come on, Clark Kent meets Bruce Wayne (who he’s never heard of before, apparently) and the first thing he asks him about is Batman? Give me a break.

And don’t even get me started on Bruce Wayne’s totally diva dirty look he directed at Kent whilst making that Clown remark. You just met the dude, Bruce, chill the fuck out.

Of course its possible that Batman at that point already knew that Kent is Superman, because the latter doesn’t wear a mask, and if Batman feels so strongly against Superman, then he’s sure to have done his research. He is the world’s greatest detective, after all. Having facial recognition software wouldn’t hurt, either.

Final thoughts

Honestly, I want to like this movie, and I do hope that this was just a horribly cut trailer that doesn’t reflect the actual film.  I’ve been waiting for a Justice League mashup, and harsh as I may have been towards this trailer, I will still absolutely be seeing this movie.

Cheesy as it may seem now, this film is going to be total eye porn and will definitely have some entertainment value with its fights and cinematography. Plus, there’s Batman, and I’m always down for some Batman… even if there is some George Clooney nipple suit action involved.

Will the film live up to the hype? We’ll find out when Batman v Superman hits theaters March 25, 2016.

New ‘Supergirl’ Trailer Revealed

We finally have a new trailer for the upcoming CBS series Supergirl! Check it out below:

Melissa Benoist (Glee) stars as the titular caped hero in this latest addition to the already superhero-littered TV world.

For those unfamiliar with Supergirl’s story, the most basic information you need to know is that Supergirl is Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El/Danvers. She possesses similar powers to her cousin, and even wears a similar outfit (as you can obviously see).

The show is the brain child of writer/producer Ali Adler (Chuck) and Arrow and The Flash co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg.

Supergirl premieres on CBS at 8:30pm EST on October 26th, 2015.

Will you be tuning in to see Supergirl when it premiers? Let us know in the comments!

New ‘Batman v Superman’ Photos Revealed

We now have some new images from Batman v Superman!

Empire Online released three never before seen images from the film as part of a special exclusive. Check them out below!

It seems that Lex Luther (Jesse Eisenberg) is ready to show off his skills on the b-ball court. He may want to change out of those super fashionable (and super hipster) clothes first, though. Also, what kind of indoor basketball court has Adirondack chairs?

We get another shot of mecha Batman (Ben Affleck) and his bat signal, which we previously saw in the Comic-Con trailer for Batman v Superman. Nothing new here.

Perhaps the most telling image is of Superman (Henry Cavill) standing in the ruins of a building.

Based on the architecture there’s a good possibility that this might in fact be the ruins of Wayne Manor. Can Superman be affected by asbestos, I wonder?

All will be revealed when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.

What do you think of the photos? Let us know in the comments below!

SDCC Day 3 Recap!

So many trailers were revealed at Comic-Con today, but unfortunately not a lot of footage has been officially released on the internet.. at least not just yet. Check out our recap of some of day 3’s most buzz worthy events:

Batman v Superman trailer

It’s here, it’s awesome, and now it’s available for everyone outside the confines of Comic-Con to watch.

Suicide Squad trailer revealed

DC revealed the trailer for Suicide Squad at Comic-Con, but unlike the Batman v Superman trailer, the studio hasn’t officially released it online.

There are plenty of leaked videos online from the panel, so if you do want to get a grainy, illegal view of the Joker & Co., you better get that done before it’s gone!

As for us, we’re just going to wait until they inevitably put the trailer online in all it’s HD glory.

Fox gives fans a first look at X-Men: Apocalypse, Jackman gets emotional11417319_1633109993640042_1397798838_n

Fox gave the panel audience a first look at Apocalypse, but much like Suicide Squad we are going to have to wait before we get the footage.

According to The Hollywood Reporterthe footage begins with a glimpse of Oscar Isaac as the villain, Apocalypse, and ended with James McAvoy Professor X, now completely bald.

Hugh Jackman, who will be reprising his role as Wolverine, spoke briefly, saying that this will be “my last time putting on the claws. This has been the greatest things that has ever happened to me.”

There was an X-Men montage shown prior to the new footage and many of the scenes heavily featured Jackman as Wolverine, all in honor of the actor’s last appearance as his most iconic character.

We do have at least something to share from the event, though. Before the panel even began, Fox was handing out flyers to fans with an artist’s rendering of Apocalypse‘s title character, which you can see on your right.

Deadpool trailer revealed

But once again we aren’t able to see it just yet. Ugh, the folly of man.

From what we’ve heard, the trailer is full of obscenities (as one would expect from an R-rated film) and is absolutely hysterical.

Ryan Reynolds (who plays Deadpool) shared a clip from the raunchy character himself before the panel begin, making fun of his characters past appearances and Reynold’s own superhero past.

Life will be so much better once this footage is shared with the world, that’s for damn sure!

Warner Bros. teases new Green Lantern movie

And speaking of Ryan Reynolds, Warner Bros. teased a new Green Lantern movie

during its introduction of the DC portion of the panel. Among the heroes and villains shown, a logo suddenly popped up saying “Green Lantern Corps.”

Is this an attempt at a reboot? We don’t know, but we certainly hope so!

https://twitter.com/LauInLA/status/619681747542736896/photo/1

“It’s an emotional rounding of the experience we had in the first films,” Harrison Ford (Solo) said. “I never thought it would come back to bless me instead of haunt me. … I was very gratified when I read the script, because I read something that I thought was really remarkable. Well written, with some intriguing developments. So I was delighted to be involved.”

…and we got behind the scenes footage of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

Ghost Busters reboot’s first official cast photo

This one technically did not occur at Comic-Con, but hey, it happened the same day so it must count, right?

DC reveals 2 new Superman mini-series

Neal Adams will be writing and drawing a six-issue series called Coming of the Supermen, which will be similar to Adams’ recent Batman: Odyssey, which also is a standalone book set outside current DC continuity. Coming of the Superman’s main villains will be Darkseid and Kalibak, with three new “heroes” emerging to join in on the action. The comic will debut in November 2015.

Also appearing in November is a seven issue series titled Superman: American Alien. The series will span different points of Clark Kents life, telling stories between his transition from farm boy to hero.

Fear the Walking Dead premier date and trailer

Fear the Walking Dead will air next month, August 23, on AMC. Check out the trailer here.

Chewbacca comic book series announced

Chewbacca is getting his own Marvel Comics series!  The series is set shortly after the Battle of Yavin. “Chewbacca is on his own when he crash lands his ship on an Imperial occupied planet,” Marvel explained. “Now stranded, Chewie finds himself caught in the middle of trying to return to the rebellion and helping a young and feisty girl in need.”

Gerry Duggan is writing, with Phil Noto manning the art.

The 5-issue series will begin its run on October 2015.

Legend of Korra Graphic Novel Series Announced

Korra will return in her own graphic novel series! Much like The Last Airbender graphic novel, this series will be set after the events of the show. Readers will finally be able to learn more about Korra and Asami’s relationship, as was confirmed by co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino during the special panel.

There is no official release date as of yet.

Stay tuned for more news from SDCC!

Geek Girls Ink’d: Harold & HP, Superman, and Harley Quinn & Jack

harold & harryFirst up this time is Laura Ann Mach from LA. Laura has a great mash-up tattoo of Harold and the Purple Crayon and Harry Potter. Harold and the Purple Crayon was her favorite book when growing up and the Harry Potter series is her favorite as an adult so putting them together was a no-brainer. Laura did a wonderful job combining the innocence and imagination of both worlds into one tattoo and the idea of Harold using his purple crayon to draw a patronus was simple yet powerful. Armando, owner of True Identity Ink, had the pleasure of turning this concept into art about six months ago. Not a lot of people have heard of Harold and the Purple Crayon so it is fun for Laura to get people interested in the story through her tattoo and those who do know it and understand the mash-up think it’s brilliant, or cute. Cute is good, too.

We next come to Kristen Richards, who calls Las Vegas her hometownIMG_20150419_172456_rewind. Her tattoo was a long time coming as she was 30-years-old before she finally got it done. She thought long and hard about what she wanted her first tattoo to be and chose the DC comics Superman symbol. She has been a fan of Superman since she was a little kid and still loves him. Kristen believes in everything Superman stands for: being the best you can be, helping others, and using your own power for the betterment of mankind. Kristen believes in the decency of humanity that Superman represents and the ideal that everyone should aspire to be. She originally went into Pricz tattoo studio with the idea of getting a small symbol on her ankle but after a lengthy discussion with the artist they both agreed that a bigger, bolder, full color tattoo would be more fitting for what she wanted to represent. After all, there isn’t really anything dainty about Superman. It’s been about ten years since Kristen went into that tattoo shop for her first tattoo and she still loves it as much as she did the first day. The colors remain fresh and bright and she has gotten nothing but positive attention from her super tattoo. It helps that she works as a teacher and her students always love it when they see it. She always tells them she has it because her students are all super. This tattoo is an integral part of who Kristen is now, is a great conversation starter, and she wouldn’t change it for anything.

tabLastly, we have Tabatha Walker, born and raised in Las Vegas. Tabatha couldn’t choose just one of her tattoos as they both are equally meaningful to her. She first got a tattoo of Jack Skellington’s head on her wrist from Steadfast Tattoo as a Friday the 13th special. It was done on a whim, but she made sure it was still something very meaningful to her. Tabatha loves not only the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas but the concept and life that surround the movie, the creator, and everything that blossomed from it as well. Her other tattoo was done by Chad at True Identity Ink and is inspired by Harley Quinn. Tabatha has always been drawn to the character of Harley Quinn and admires her for how amazing and strong she is. She loves that she is not really a villain or a hero, but rather does what is necessary in her life for herself and what makes her happy. Tabatha spent years contemplating what she wanted to do for her diamonds tattoo and finally decided on this design. She has had some negative pushback from people who have said she would be prettier if she hadn’t messed up her skin, but those are very few and very far between. Tabatha finds her ink beautiful and has absolutely no regrets.
