Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels newest episode, The Call, aired on February 10, 2016. The episode followed Ezra and his pals as they traveled through space in search of fuel. Along the way, they encountered a majestic species, made some new enemies, and questioned their Jedi instincts. I recapped and reviewed the episode, bringing you up to speed on the Rebels’ latest shenanigans.
Check out my thoughts in the video below:
The Call revealed the grimmer, less glamorous side of the rebellion: no fuel, freezing cold, and stuck! Sometimes it’s easy to forget about the real life challenges of a war in the midst of exciting, action packed fight sequences against, say, the Inquisitors or Darth Vader. However, this episode’s little dose of realism made the fight against the Empire seem more important than ever. Afterall, it was truly a case of the “haves” vs. “the have nots.”
Further, it did so while still showcasing everything marvelous there is about Star Wars: trusting one’s instincts and using the Force, the power of team work to prevail against an enemy, and gorgeous cinematography capturing unique alien species. I especially loved the aesthetic of the purrgil, which resembled magnificent whale/squid hybrids swimming through a sea of stars. Can I please go on a space cruise and admire their beauty? (I’ll be sure to give them some air— no pun intended— and stay farther away from them than Hera did!)
