Will Channing Tatum Leave ‘Gambit’? We Have the Official Word!

We recently discussed the rumor that Channing Tatum was leaving Gambit, a project that was pretty much his idea.

Many people across the internet rejoiced at the idea, while others were left disappointed that the hunky star of 21 Jump Street was leaving the project. But with the rumors being, well, rumors, nobody could know for sure what the hell was going to happen.

But now we have official word regarding Tatum’s status with Gambit: He will be starring in the film!

The Hollywood Reporter was first to break this exclusive news, and, according to their sources, those rumors that divided the internet into pro-Tatum and anti-Tatum camps did hold some merit afterall.

Sources say that Tatum and the studio actually did hit a snag during negotiations, but Tatum’s role was never in any real danger as the actor had already invested himself as both an actor and a producer for Gambit.

He even made a surprise appearance at Fox’s X-Men panel at Comic-Con in July, which pretty much solidified him in the role.

With Tatum confirmed, Gambit is now well on its way to becoming a huge part of the X-Men Universe. What that part will grow to be, only time can tell.

Gambit is being produced by 20th Century Fox and is an X-Men spin off movie. The film hits theaters October 2016.

Are you excited that Tatum is still on board for Gambit, or should another actor have taken his place? Let us know in the comments!

‘Gambit’ Producer Gives Exclusive Details in Interview

https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/x-men/images/b/b1/Xmen1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20101014041724

Magic Mike XXL releases soon over the July 4th weekend and writer Reid Carolin sat down for an interview with Screen Rant in which a few details about the new Gambit movie he is producing were revealed.

Photo: Getty Images

As we know, Channing Tatum, star of MM XXL, will be portraying Gambit in the upcoming movie set in New Orleans, LA. While Tatum’s Cajun accent doesn’t seem to be fully realized quite yet, Carolin introduced the actor to an old friend from college who has helped Tatum brush up and learn some light of hand, as well as how to throw the cards like a pro.

Gambit is a mutant who has the ability to charge objects with kinetic energy. He’s appeared in many arcs of the X-Men comic series, and is well-known to always have a deck of cards (come on, that’s 52 explosives right there) and his trademark bo staff.

While the casting might have put some people off, it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of power Tatum puts in the character and how well he channels our favorite X-Man’s signature fighting style. I think it’s going to be a rip-roaring good movie to say the least, and I await the trailer!

Carolin confirmed that Gambit is slated to start filming in New Orleans this fall, with a scheduled release on October 7, 2016.

Watch Olivia Munn Practice Her Swordsmanship for ‘Apocalypse’

Olivia Munn is ready to kick some serious ass!

The actress has been honing her swordsmanship skills for X-Men: Apocalypse, where she’ll play Betsy Braddock, better known as Psylocke.

Munn showed off said skills in a short video on her official Instagram account:

Learned some new tricks…

A video posted by Olivia Munn (@oliviamunn) on

Psylocke first appeared in the U.K’s popular Captain Britain series as Betsy Braddock, the title character’s twin sister. She later joined the X-Men series under the alias Psylocke.

Everything that happened in between her jump from Captain Britain to X-Men is a bit complicated, but Marvel Wiki has summed it up pretty good for us!

The daughter of Sir James Braddock, a citizen of Otherworld, Elizabeth Braddock is used to inter-dimensional travel. The sister of the powerful reality altering mutantJamie Braddock and twin to theUnited Kingdom’s premier superhero Brian Braddock (Captain Britain), Elizabeth has been living the superhero life since her teenage years. Originally a charter pilot, Betsy took-up a modeling career, until hertelepathic powers emerged and she joined S.T.R.I.K.E., the U.K.’s equivalent of the U.N.’sS.H.I.E.L.D.. After killing an alternate realityversion of her twin brother, Kaptain Briton, Betsy used his suit and briefly became Captain Britain. After the assassin Slaymaster brutally beat and blinded Betsy, she was kidnapped by Spiral and Mojo and surgically given artificial eyes, restoring her sight. Naming her Psylocke, Betsy was freed from Mojo’s mental control, by the New Mutants and, after fending off an attack by Sabretooth, joined the X-Men, where she fought for the peaceful coexistence of mutants and humans. Betsy’s life was changed forever after crime lord Mats’uo Tsurayaba captured her and switched her mind with the mind of his lover, Kwannon. Betsy was brainwashed into become the Lady Mandarin and learned the art of ninjitsu, but regained her free will and rejoined the X-Men. After starting a long-standing relationship with teammate Warren Worthington III, Betsy was attacked by Sabretooth and Warren used the Crimson Dawn to heal her, giving her a new set of powers to teleport in shadows and distancing her relationship with Warren. With her powers switching from telepathy to telekinesis, Betsy eventually joined the splinter group, X-Treme X-Men, while searching for the future-telling Destiny’sdiaries and was murdered by Vargas. After being resurrected by her brother Jamie, Betsy rejoined the X-Men, briefly joined the Exiles and Excalibur, and returned to the X-Men, while secretly joining the assassin squad of X-Men X-Force, renewing her relationship with Warren.

Tl;dr: She’s a total badass who isn’t afraid to dip her pen in the company ink.

Munn joins a bunch of newcomers, including Game of Throne‘s Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), as well as Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Lana Condor (Jubilee), Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), and possible love interest Ben Hardy (Warren Worthington III/Angel).

Returning from the previous films are James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), and Lucas Till (Havok).

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27, 2016!

What did you think of Munn’s moves? Let us know in the comments below!

Review of All New X-Men #40

The original X-Men, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Iceman, Angel and Beast, have been yanked forward through time in a fruitless attempt to correct the errors of the modern-day X-Men. The original five teenagers are now stuck in a time far ahead of their own. They’ve ventured into space, met their future selves (with the exception of Jean Grey) and traveled between alternate dimensions. But now they’re back home, on Earth, in this place outside their time.

Utopia, the Promised Land for all mutants, has fallen, leaving it susceptible to scavengers. A group of unnamed looters comes upon the island in hopes of finding implied treasures: weaponry, advanced technology, anything that can be sold on the black market. Before they are able to search the island they are blown up by a shadowy figure.

The panel cuts to the teenaged X-Men, having just returned from a space adventure and enjoying some hamburgers. Some banter, some relish in the burgers, but the most notable occurrence is Jean Grey’s conversation with Iceman. If you have been paying attention to the internet at all then you’ve already seen the panel.

How disgraceful of Jean to out Iceman before he was ready. Curiosity and the power to read minds does not give her that right! Even as his friend, her responsibility starts and stops at providing emotional support on his terms. It is her selfishness that drives her to confront him, as though everything that happens on the team must filter through her first. If Iceman wanted to stay “in the closet” until he felt comfortable then it was his call to make. Maybe he hasn’t had the time to fully comprehend how he feels about men? The time they came from was far less open to gay men; it was a time before the “It gets better” PSA, a time before characters in media could just be gay without a scandal attached to it. It would be perfectly understandable that Iceman did not feel comfortable expressing his sexuality.

iceman-jean2Iceman then goes on to make a point: the present-day Iceman isn’t gay and he dated plenty of women, including Kitty Pryde. Jean counters that present day Iceman didn’t date women very well.

This feels like a gross misunderstanding of what it means to be gay. Over the course of the history of the X-Men, Iceman dated a few women. Unfortunately, one turned out to be a cloud. Yes, a literal cloud named Cloud. He also dated Opal, Mystique, and Polaris. None of those relationships ended well for different reasons. Some were a touch evil and a few were already engaged to be married (AHEM, Polaris). None of these things in themselves are proof that anyone is gay. Making bad relationship choices is simply one of the many hazards of growing into a fully formed adult.

It is not a matter of whether or not Iceman is gay. He is, end of story. The handling of this development was simultaneously disconcerting and triumphant. Marvel stayed true to the plight of homosexuals in our society. Worried that they will be ostracized, some feel the need to hide who they are until they are adults. The irony is that Bendis chose to mirror this social struggle using the young Iceman rather than have the adult Iceman finally come out on his own terms.

There is also something to be said about outing an already beloved character. Yes, readers accept Northstar as being gay and Mystique as a bisexual. However, both of those characters were established as such earlier on in the continuity. The outing of Iceman serves a reminder that as we loved him as a character before this issue, we should continue to love him. His sexual preference changes nothing about his character. Whether or not this social relevance was executed purposefully or by happenstance doesn’t matter. It’s there, it’s relevant, and how people react will be important.

Unaware of what’s going on with his teammate; Angel is sorting through his own angsty relationship. He finally admits to Laura that he loves her and that he is terrified of ending up like the present day Angel. They have a sweet moment, they kiss, and all is well in the lives of the young X-Men.

Back in Utopia, SHIELD Agents are readying their crafts to land. They received an earlier transmission stating there may be some unregistered mutant energy, and have come to explore. Before they even have a chance to touchdown, their aircraft is destroyed.

This is an obvious twist. Clearly there are mutants still calling Utopia home, and in true Marvel form they will most likely become the next “gray area” villains: mutants trying to find a home in a world that doesn’t want them. My prediction is a long drawn out battle with SHIELD and the young X-Men, resulting in a new Brotherhood, thus bringing the X-Men full-circle.

X-Men Writer Chris Claremont Brings You Marada The She-Wolf

Marada-The-She-Wolf

Marada The She-Wolf  will hit stores on November 12, 2013 in a new deluxe hardcover collection. This tale about a white-haired, blood-soaked mercenary swordswoman, who happens to be a descendant of Julius Caesar, is written by none other than Chris Claremont (The Uncanny X-Men; Excalibur; Captain Britain; Fantastic Four; Gen 13, Sovereign 7) with artwork by award winning artist John Bolton (Man-Bat; Shame: Pursuit; Books of Magic).

Marada, together with her magical companion, Princess Arianrhod, battle evil and unearthly terror as they travel across the Roman Empire. Artist John Bolton has worked on restoring the original artwork for this new hardcover collection of the series.

“I look through these pages and I’m reminded, most eloquently, just how gifted John Bolton is as an artist, how breathtakingly skilled he is at evoking character and event, how powerfully and also subtly he can present a scene,” – Chris Claremont.

Many know that during his 17 years as X-Men writer, Claremont co-created characters such as Rogue, Psylocke, Mystique, Emma Frost, Sabretooth, Gambit, and a host of other characters for the Marvel Universe. Much of the Claremont era X-Men tales are the source material for the upcoming films The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The collection will also be available to read day and date on the iPad, iPhone, Web, Android and Kindle Fire, exclusively through the comiXology app and comiXology.com.

Wolverine Anime on DVD Review and Giveaway

Wolverine Box ArtWolverine, the anime, hits stores today. The complete 12 episode series from Madhouse and Marvel Television which debuted on Japan television back in January of 2011 and on G4TV in July of that year, is available now in a 2 disc set. New York Times Best Selling Author, Warren Ellis, helped to craft the story line centered around one of Marvel’s most beloved mutant heroes.

The anime begins with the abduction of Logan’s girlfriend, Mariko Yashida a year prior to the main story. Logan (voiced in English by Milo Ventimiglia “Heroes,” “Gilmore Girls”) travels to Japan to find out that the love of his life is being forced to marry Kurohagi, a business partner of her father Shingen, who just happens to be an evil crime lord. Not one to let the girl he loves get away, Logan does what he does best; he starts slashing his way through until he gets to the bottom of whats going on. He is helped on his quest to save Mariko from her loveless arranged marriage by an Yukio, a young assassin.

Madhouse does a really great job with the animation in this edition to their Marvel Anime series. The fight scenes are well drawn and stay true to the anime look and feel. The only exception to this would be the character of Wolverine himself. In this series, he has been given a very lean and long design that is completely unlike is comic book version. The hairstyle is also a departure from the angular cut we are used to in the comics. However, his is not unlike a true anime hero in his design, even if he has a mullet.

Milo Ventimiglia doesn’t have the usual gruffness in his voice that fans have come to associate with Wolverine. You really have to look at this adaptation as not an interpretation but an all together new envisioning of a popular character that has become ingrained in our collective consciousness.

Special features include three new featurettes: The Marvel Anime Universe: Wolverine Reborn, which takes a look at the process involved in creating the series, The Ferocious Anti-Hero: Wolverine Defined which goes into the development of the character, and Wolverine Meets X-Men is an interview with the creators of both Wolverine and the X-Men anime (check out our review.)

We will be giving away one copy of the Wolverine anime. All you have to do is comment on this review, by registering for our site, or like our facebook page and comment there. Contest will end at 12:00pm PST on Friday August 3, 2012. Contest is only open to US residents.

Good Luck!
